The fuel cap door used to lock on older vehicles but it was discontinued some time ago, due to microchip shortages apparently.
There is a usual anti-siphon trap so it will be difficult to steal fuel. |

My MY24 has the locking fuel cap, was surprised as no mention on the spec - only realised when locking the car when refuelling and couldn’t open the flap. That’s good. I guess they found a box of chips somewhere in the factory.

My MY23.5 doesn't have a locking filler cap. I had to buy one!

The anti siphoning is quite effective. When my Discovery 4 TdV6 cratered (and with it my love for the brand), I had just brimmed it with diesel. In an attempt to recover it I tried to transfer it out into my Defender Td5 - the one that has an engine that does not habitually crater - but I failed to do so, tried everything you just can seem to get down to the fluid.
Just to kick a man when he is down, the Euro 10k write off (this is France) left my drive with Euro 120 of perfectly usable diesel. Love the Discovery, had 5. 4 petrol and 1 with this POS engine. |
