Over 300 tractors took part in the tractor run today. As I mentioned in another post, the GREEN PARTY want these banned. They raise a lot for local charities. Lots of photos on their FACEBOOK page.

I wonder what the carbon footprint of every tractor run each year is in the UK and Eire is? Minimal, I suggest.

I have also wondered what thecarbon foot print of an election is? (I realise spudfan you thankfully haven’t got the joy where you live). With all the travelling up and down the country and the circus of journalists and tv cameras, and the people posting pamphlets through our doors that go straight in the recycling, as we all know no party will ever tell you the truth. I’m sure it is far higher for these few six weeks.

Tell them all to stay at home (or at least in Westminster) and do their electioneering on telly and on line. And leave the tractor runs alone.

Rant over

Do they though?

I can’t find any source from the Green Party even mentioning tractor runs, let alone wanting them banned. The only results on Google are you making this claim, and a single activist in Ireland campaigning against them, but he is not linked to the Green Party in any way.

We should all be aware of our carbon footprint. Problem starts when you start telling other people to reduce their carbon footprint, bit of a slippery slope that. There are so many things people 'should not be doing' before we know we are back in the 1478 to 1834, to name just some random dates (Spanish Inquisition).

Face it, what we are doing to our planet is not sustainable forever, so rather than sulk about it lets just make the enjoyment last a little longer by taking just a little bit of personal responsibility where we can and when we see fit.

Thumbs Up

Nicely put

I agree we should all try and lighten our carbon footprint it’s just there are so many of the so called green warriors who march on London protesting about oil then fly long haul to Mauritius on holiday.

If any of you remember Live Earth in 2007 where the great and the good of rock and pop were telling us mortals to save the planet. We had seen Genesis at Old Trafford on the Saturday. They played the concert on the Sunday afternoon and then their entourage had moved lock stock and barrel to Twickenham for a concert on the Sunday night. Phil Collins was interviewed and he was asked whether he had ever thought of the environmental implications of a giant world tour like they were doing. I can’t recall the exact answer but it was a very awkward moment.

The Concert was fantastic by the way

There was a tractor run in Kerry earlier this year and the GREEN PARTY did state that they were against them and they should not be allowed.
Over here we have elections as well. Two as a matter of fact. One to elect members to the European Parliament and the second for local councillors. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Now compare tractor runs to football in this country (stands back and waits to get verbally abused to even mention the hallowed game).

How many people support football teams and travel with them to away matches and internationals alike. Carbon footprint anyone? The Premiership will always fly their teams when possible. Then the diehards who will visit a town and city where they are playing even if they don’t have a ticket? And the non-league teams all driving around each Saturday, and their supporters.

Formula One. (I’m on my soap box now!!!) Thank goodness they have braking regen to save their environmental impact on the world. Always good to see a bit of power put back in the batteries. That will make all the difference to offset the 20 odd artics and 115 people per team they cart around Europe (source is the Alpine Team via Business Insider).

And they are worried about a few vintage tractors? Good grief they need to get a life!

I still cannot find any evidence of this statement from the Green Party - just the environmentalist campaigner Tom Roache?

It is not in their manifesto but a GREEN PARTY member stated they should be banned. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I do not know the member's name, all I know is that when the Kerry tractor run took place the GREEN Party were not happy with it. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
