Are you sure it’s a 2.4 and not the 2.2 as the 2.4 was replaced as an engine in about 2012 ish?
From my point of view whilst the “old” defender was a great vehicle it was noisy, slow, uncomfortable and a poor long distance driver so beware of the “rose tinted” glasses effect Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car. "OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car. "HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence. "TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you. |

I have a 90 Puma HT that whilst doesn't get used often has done some long distances like Newcastle to Gatwick in a day towing 2ton…..
Maybe not quite as ‘nice’ a place as my T5 LWB but is certainly not slow or noisy?? |

In the 1980's I had a V8 90 CSW. I remember it could only do about 100 miles on a tank of petrol so think I prefer my P300 110 which can do more like 400 miles to a tank full.

I moved from a 2008 CSW to a new D300 110. I had it for a few months but never got attached to it and quickly realised that whilst it was a great car, I was never going to be able to enjoy it as much as I did the old 110.
Luckily I hadn’t sold my old 110 so I went back to that and sold the new Defender. Recently, to make the Puma a little easier to live with and because I had some engine and gearbox issues, I’ve dropped in a BMW M57 engine and 6 speed auto box. I can’t see me ever selling this now as it does all I need it to and more. (Until ULEZ comes in everywhere and I can’t drive it anymore!) 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X |

I think this is where it’s important to decide on a conversion that’ll be ULEZ compliant. I believe the petrol (B57?) is compliant once registered? 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

My last old defender was a then new 2015 90 Urban Truck, it was really a third vehicle for the family.
I do regret selling it and would have another one tomorrow, as a weekend vehicle Mind you I have been Defenderless since March 1st, as I part ex’d the hard top for an XS edition which has now been cancelled by JLR, as they have stopped building the 24 model!!! With no option of an XS in the more expensive 25my line up. But as the OP asks yes I would definitely like to have another, great fun Cheers Simon I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you 1990 110 TD5 county, my first Land Rover - gone 2012 Discovery 4 XS SDV6 - gone 2014 Discovery 4 XS SDV6 - gone 2015 Evoque SD4 dynamic - Wife’s - gone 2015 Urban Truck 90 XS Santorini Black Hard Top - Reluctantly gone 2020 Discovery 5 Eiger Grey 3.0 SE - gone March 24 2021 Defender S D250 Santorini Black 110 HT - gone March 24 2023 Evoque P300e SE wife’s current vehicle |

The "new" old Defender l have been offered as a swap for my 2022 Defender is actually a 2008 110 XS SW. lt's done under 5,000 miles.
Well, it's not exactly a swap, as some money would come my way as well, but after l pay tax on the sale of my 2022 Defender it ends up as pretty much an exchange. The 2008 is the earlier 2.4 TDCi and reviews of that engine are mixed. Also it's only Euro 4 although it's classed as a car, so exempt from some of the LEZ's Road tax is £700, effectively £60 per month. |

Would I trade our P400 for an old Defender…. No, however we are thinking of possibly trading in
the wife’s 14 year old RRS for an ex Aussie Army LWB Perentie, they come with a 3.9 diesel from Isuzu as standard.. looking at this when we get back from our Euro tour.. plenty available as well Driven plenty of series 2’s in the Army.. so not giving up all the luxury yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

Was looking at a nice condition ex military Defender 90 yesterday. They're very basic but would be great as a second vehicle.

Learned to drive and passed my test in a SWB lightweight Airportable when based in Blandford, the SWB (90ish) was more agile than the LWB utility, FFR etc I found, the Perentie though will be a LWB yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

I recall there was a discussion here earlier about if you could show up for your driving test in a Series Land Rover. The conclusion was: probably no, even though it is a road worthy vehicle.
In most places in Europe you can only do the test in a driving school car with the dual peddles etc. |
