By coincidence, I've just bought one of these:
and one of these: Both from eBay for a total of £40. I did consider a 7" monitor, but I thought it probably overkill for the application, plus it would kind of dominate the centre of the dashboard. The 4.3" one should, with a bit of bracketry cunningness, fit above the rear view mirror. I've particularly gone for a CCD camera as opposed to a CMOS one, as they are supposed to give a sharper picture. They only arrived yesterday though and I haven't had time to rig them up and actually check that yet. I plan to mount the camera on the rear of the roof directly above the rear screen washer jet pointing downwards into the big blind spot. However, the monitor has two inputs so I may add a second camera on the rear crossmember above the tow hitch at some point, too. All I have to do then is arrange for some power that's switched on by the reversing lights and Bob's your mothers brother Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Yeah, my monitor was a bit of a bargain. Most are buy-it-now for around £40 but I came across an auction for one with no bids for £20. Darren

THIS ONE finishes tomorrow morning. It's the same as I've just bought from the same seller. Darren

Just be aware that the screen will clutter up the dash. Which is why I am ditching mine and going for a new head unit that supports reverse camera input, such as this one:

Like I say, I plan to mount the screen above the rear view mirror. Just got to fabricate a bracket of some sort. Darren

Managed a quick and dirty wiring lash-up this afternoon, just to prove the equipment worked, and took a few equally quick and dirty pictures along the way:
With the camera perched on the dashboard, this is the screen image. The picture quality is much better than shown, but I think it's suffered from being a reduced in size digital picture. Click image to enlarge One thing that hadn't occured to me is that the image on the screen is mirrored. Makes sense though, I suppose. I plan to mount the screen up by the real mirror, so this is just to show the size of it: Click image to enlarge The camera is equipped with infra red LED's to provide 'night vision' and switches automatically depending on light levels. To test it, I just pointed it down at the darkened dash with the following result: Click image to enlarge The resolution suffers a bit, but it serves its' purpose and is quite a neat feature.
