2.4 TDCI to BMW M57 gearbox options?
Hi All,

Not sure if this is in the right place but I am looking at changing my dead 2.4 TDCI in my 110 to a BMW M57.

I have seen the kit that mates it to the existing manual gearbox and also a ZF 6 speed but I have also heard of an 8 Speed.

Would like a little help deciding on which box would suit my application as it is mainly a tow vehicle and the 6 speed auto in my previous discovery 3s and 4s didn't last long towing

TIA

Its possible to fit the ZF8 speed to the M57 but its pretty expensive.

House of Torque do a full adapter kit and well priced for what you are getting,

Would a 6 speed auto and changing the T Box ratio help

You are local to me. I’d be interested in your dead 2.4 if it’s just piston etc gone. I’m looking for a tinkering/learning project to put on a stand for my son, If it’s reasonable £. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

Narrow block 184/203s go to mt82, I believe there is a wide block adaptor coming or possibly out now for 218, 231 etc.

I have a 184 to mt82 with 33s on 4.11s with 1.003 box.

and a 231 with 6hp28. Most 8 speed auto conversions come in £1k more and I believe most map it to pull away in 2nd and top 8th is not miles away from top in a 6 speed. I am 231, 3.542, 31s, 1.3 in a 130.

Cooling is key for engine and gbox.

What do you want to know? Cheers

For sure. The engine won’t be any use to me. I’m thinking of pulling it out soon.

Thank you James, what I needed to know.
I think I’ll stick with 6 speed for now.

If you can PM me when you are ready, that would be awesome.

Personally I think sticking to the MT82 is a good cost saving and also it’s a good manual gearbox

I keep asking myself what the registration of the vehicle will look like after the conversion, is that problem-free?
I like the M57 "swap", but to be honest, I want to drive the car on public roads after that Rolling with laughter

In the UK you can drive on the roads without the vehicle registration or V5 being updated. However, you must ensure you disclose the modifications made to the vehicle with your insurer to ensure your policy covers you. 4.0 V8 Defender 90

And an extra £40 on my insurance and all perfectly road legal. My registration says 3.0L diesel. 👍

If you refer to my Q, yes. The cost of converting a Puma fitting whatever engine and transmission applies (the usual ones). Thx Puma 110" SW
