I didn't do much personally to my Defender bar from collecting it on Saturday Smile

Great to be back behind the wheel and looking forward to new experiences.

Hiya,
Following on from removing, resealing and refitting the side windows I lifted the roof and fitted new side seals. It's now dry (in the back ๐Ÿ˜).

I then insulated roof, sides and seat boxes with foil backed 7mm foam, run cables in for interior lights and a couple of USB sockets. I then carpeted. For the floor I fitted some thin foam (for under laminate flooring) and then 6mm rubber sheet.
Next came a couple of boards (hinged and attached to the bulkhead so that they concertina up to give me the full load bay if needed) and some cushions made with waterproof covers. I can now have either a small seat, a large seat or a full bed.

On a roll, I changed the gearbox oil, engine oil and both filters and checked the diffs.

I fueled up, added a wife, dog and camping gear then drove from Cumbria to Folkestone, Chunnel to France, up through Northern France, Belgium and into the Netherlands.
Spent a few days in a cabin on the edge of a Forrest. Very nice.

I noticed that we were only 30 odd miles from Germany so we drove over the border to a town called Goch but it was raining so hard the wife refused to leave the Landy. I took the dog out for a wee and we drove back.
Came home via the Amsterdam - Newcastle ferry.

Ted had a wee in the UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany in 6 days.
Ted and myself both had a dump in the middle of the North Sea (I used a toilet).

Total driven distance was 1022 miles and 138.95 litres of fuel used.
33.43 mpg sitting at between 60 and 70 mph on the motorways/dual carriageways (Lots of stop/start on the M25 and the Antwerp ring road ๐Ÿ™„).

Landy didn't miss a beat.

In relation to the above - has anyone done any experiments on tyre pressures vs. fuel consumption..?? Just wondering if more road biased, thinner tyres at a higher pressure (currently on AT 265/75's @ 33 psi on all corners) would see me get 35+ mpg...??

Found a job for a weekend!.. Small puddle of coolant on the gearbox, looks like itโ€™s weeping from the usual head core plug. Whilst at it ordered new hd studs and a de-webbed heat treated skimmed manifold from Dean/ Total td5. Be rude to fit the original back on and can guarantee thereโ€™ll be a broken stud or two upon removal!

Had an hour spare this afternoon so whipped the manifold off with no snapped studs!
Re-sealed core plug with some loctite 243. Hopefully it does the job!
Waiting on some new heavy duty studs etc to refit!

Not anything really just enjoying some free time to catch up some bits and pieces on it.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, this weather is ideal to get some jobs done.
Not too hot, not too cold and for once not too wet. Laughing

A bit of a heads up, but be aware of a shop on eBay called;
mr m0 tor p arts d1rect.
The 0, the spaces and the 1 here being replaced, so not key-worded on search engines.

Anyway, I bought a small item luckily only worth ยฃ10.
It never arrived, no communication. I had to open a non delivered case with eBay. Still no response so it will be handled by eBay to refund it automatically.

Itโ€™s mainly LR parts for sale on there, I am glad I didnโ€™t buy anything more from there, so this is just a message to be aware.
When I looked at feedback on their page, it seems like it has happened a good 5 or 6 times in the last 6 months alone.
I wouldnโ€™t mind if they had replied, but no response at all and other people have said the same thing.
Just a good job Ebay automatically respond and process non delivered refunds.
Even though that takes longer, itโ€™s been almost a month now.

Later edit*
Now been refunded by the company - it had got lost. But they could have responded sooner. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

All back together over lunch break with hd studs & spacers, de-webbed and skimmed manifold. All this just for re-sealing a core plug Rolling Eyes Laughing
At the same time did an Egr cooler delete as I blanked it off from the intake previously but never removed it fully. No more coolant pipes or vacuum solenoids and wiring etc.
Nice and tidy engine bay, and not noticeable unless all the engine covers are removed!

I put off fixing a leak from that plug on my Disco 2 for about 10 years beause I thought it would have seized in the head and would be a problem to unscrew. Finally when the rearmost manifold stud sheared and I had to bite the bullet, I found that actually it wasn't even finger tight which was why it was leaking! Laughing

It required no tools to remove the plug, just the end of a digit stuck in the hex.

On the bright side, at least for 10 years the engine always had really fresh coolant because it never stayed there particularly long. Very Happy

In an effort to reduce the steering play, last week I replaced the steering drop arm as I found some play in the ball joint.

The drive down to mid wales was much improved over the last drive I did. Noticeably less play in the steering which was nice. 1999 Defender TD5 110
