MAF sensor failure Puma
Hello everyone,
I own a Defender 2007, 2.4. with around 240.000km

Very happy with it so far, but recently it is producing errors related to the MAF and Diesel injectors.
First error was related to failing Diesel injectors. As the existing ones were in bad shape, we replaced them with new ones.
After this and 50km more, another error occurred saying MAF was within its limits but very high. After cleaning the MAF and testing it for another 50km, the same error came back on.
Replacing the MAF with a new one from Hella and another 100km leaves me with the same error message again.

Anyone experience with this? Thank you very much.

Okay so I am not sure if the MAF sensor and MAP sensor are separate on the 2.4 as I have the 2.2 which are separate. I changes both sensors. I would advise changing your air filter as well. Once the ECU is clear of the fault code you might find this solves it and its not hugely expensive and easy to do.

MAF and MAP are separate on the 2.4 also.

Sometimes other things trigger a nuisance MAF code which if I remember rightly that one is.
The EGR is one culprit that has been known to trigger a false MAF DTC.

Do you have a Rai or Snorkel?
If so some people have had false DTC’s with the MAF because of that ongoing and just clear it.
I haven’t with mine but I have heard of it.

Try modding the air box base for better air flow if this is the case, and a new air filter as mentioned and go from there. Also have a quick look at the wiring from the MAF plug. Sometimes the wiring there can break and some people have had to replace it due to this. No Guts, No Glory.

Hello again,
in the end we had a look at the EGR and replaced it. Error is now gone for 500km+.

Not sure what your figures relate to..
Your ambient air pressure should relate to about 1 bar (14.7psi)..
At tick over you would see a boost pressure of about 1 psi giving a manifold pressure of about 15/16psi....
The maf at tick over about 16gs..
Your fuel rail pressure of 23MPs would be about right for tick over.. Ie 3300psi
Not sure what the fuel rail sensor voltage is about... 23.93🤔

OK.

According to your suggestions looks the manifold pressure is lower than the atmosheric pressure.

All other figures look ok.

I am having a smoke problem, therefore. It only goes away when the engine is very hot. Not at 50, 70 or 80C, but close to 90C. Puma 110" SW

But what do 88 and 91 referee to.. If its kpa that doesn't make sense.. If 1kpa is about half a psi, or 0.45 psi..

Right. IIRC the MAP will read less than the actual ambient pressure due to vaccum. Not sure though. Puma 110" SW

I have never seen my boost pressure ie mamifold pressure lower than ambient even on tick over.. There is always a slight increase..
But if you have an active egr system I suppose it may be possible that the electronic throttle will close slightly to aid egr.. And you could see a slightly lower pressure👍

The one on the airbox or the one just near/beneath the injectors? > 110 XS Double Cab
