Start prevent🤔
Wondering if anyone can say what's the best way to prevent a start whilst cranking..
Its the 2.2tdci engine..
Could the injector circuits be damaged if you simply unplug the injectors before cranking.. It has a inertia switch on the bulkhead and I was wondering about that as a more suitable possibility..

And I would have tried it but don't want to mess to much as I'm not at home and don't want to cause issues whilst away👍

There are many options, bit disconnecting the crankshaft or camshaft position sensors will have the desired effect and has the advantage that the ECM won't try to fire the injectors without one or other signal.

Thanks BW👍.. I was wanting something a bit more accessible if possible given the crankshaft sensor is not easily accessible and the camshaft plug is a pain to get at but I suppose the more times you try the easier it may get..

I'd rather it was injectors or the inertia switch, and was just wondering if anyone had used them as they are easily and quickly got at..

Maybe a fuse to disable the fuel or ecu side🤔
I'll look at the wiring dig as well..
Cheers

For obvious reasons I'm not going to go into detail on a public forum.....

I have a hidden switch on my 2.2 TDCi that prevents the engine cranking, it's quite easy to wire in.

PM for details.

It's extremely easy to inhibit cranking an a multitude of ways, but the OP specifically asked how to avoid the engine starting whilst cranking which is rather different and no quite so easy.

It is worth bearing in mind that inhibiting cranking won't stop the vehicle from being tow-started but preventing the engine from starting whilst cranking will. Mind you neither stops the vehicle from being towed or lifted away.

Thanks, but as BW has said that's not quite what I'm after..
I'm hoping for a quick and easy way to prevent fueling and running whilst cranking..

Looking at quick way to do relative compression testing👍

IIRC the inertia switch will prevent cranking. The starter relay is enabled by the ECM and I believe it wont do that in case of emergency (even the wipers are disabled so you wont poke an eye out after rolling over Laughing )

Thanks for taking the time.. Its the inertia switch I'm going to be looking at when I get home..
Are you speaking from experience or just from your understanding of it??

My reading of the ws manual indicates the engine will crank with the inertia switch operative, but the fuel system is disabled, so it will be interesting to see what it does..

tried it today on my 2.2ltdci, and just to confirm disconnecting the inertia switch does disable starting but the motor still cranks Thumbs Up
