Why, are Mercedes better than LR Whistle

If the new Octa is what it suggests then it may well be better than the G-Wagon Thumbs Up Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

Never understood the logic of making a vehicle ‘more off road ready’, then pricing it in a way the enthusiast could never afford and the ‘banker’ buying it will never want to get their brown loafers dirty.

Better off buying a Wolf, a darn sight cheaper and more fun and looks super cool. In my lower budget opinion…. Whistle

Described as: "the New Defender OCTA is the fastest and most powerful Defender yet."

I read that and all I can invision is overtaking something into the 3rd lane on the motorway whilst doing maybe 75mph and having an OCTA appearing an inch off my rear bumper flashing for me to get out the way as it then continues down the road at silly speeds...

I'm sure that won't be applicable to all owners. The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

Just signed the NDA in USA. LR might be having supply chain issues, but it obviously has no impact on the legal department. Several physical (in USA) events scheduled concluding with a series of virtual tours. D90X 2023.5

Did we not have those sort of pumped up video's for the D3 now they are £1500 worth of shopping mall transport or worse stationary automotive green houses with disabled engines!

Linds Hanson, not sure what you mean? Are you saying the D3 after 14 years are only worth £1500 and have depreciated so much we should expect the Defender Octa to do the same?

You have to consider all vehicles are a depreciating asset so yes they will drop in value but if you get pleasure out of it for the time of ownership then who cares?

I for one will attend the launch event, spec my car and decide if the price is correct to buy one or not Thumbs Up

At this time everything else is pure speculation Wink Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

How popular do we think the Octa will be? Im curious to see how much of a difference there is between the current one and the Octa. From the spy pictures they look similar but I suppose the camo is doing its job correctly...?

Got an invite then filled all the details in then it asks for a £5000.00 deposit called the dealer to ask if this is correct and they don’t know I don’t fancy paying for something I’ve not seen or don’t know the actual price

Serious question, have you owned a G-wagon, driven one or even spent time in one?

I didn't see Chris86 say one was better than the other but I do understand the point he is making: positioning the Octa at the price point is going to bring comparisons to a lot of performance SUV money.

The new Defender is a good vehicle but even in standard trim, it lacks the quality feel Mercedes (Magna Steyr) achieve with the G. Simply opening and closing the doors is a different experience: the Defenders are heavy, the Gs are solid and feel like you are closing a bank vault but without the need to have powerlifters arms.

Setting that to one side, I think I am also getting old because I no longer see the point of a performance SUV and that comes from someone who has owned a handful. Each to their own but give me range, go anywhere ability and comfort and I'm happy. High centre of gravity, constantly fighting physics, weight and rapid performance seems paradoxical to me.
