2.4tdci Puma 40k miles recorded
Blue grey smoking on cold start up. Clears on short run, then ok. New turbo recently replace due to over boost recorded several time/lack of power/limp mode but no warning light. new turbo cured lack of power.
VCV valve replaced last year as MAF & cleaned often.
Main issue is cold start smoking? Otherwise running well (so far).

I would be tempted to chuck a bottle of Forte Diesel System Cleaner into the tank and see if that makes any difference?

I wouldn’t worry about it. Bit of cold start smoke is normal on a Puma with multiple threads on here supporting that. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

Thanks. In day's gone by , worn valve guides would be a contender with high mileage. Mine's very low, but does sit around for several weeks at a time. Idle for nearly two years during Covid. Probably what caused turbo/vane failure. I do use system cleaner now and then. Have to give it a blast to clear it out.
Cheers

Just a thought, but It could be a glow plug issue.

If you use an odb2 code reader you should see diagnostic trouble codes for the glow plugs if they are faulty. I.e P0380 / P0670. Noting a glow plug issue won’t necessarily bring up a check engine light and the glow plug light can operate as normal even if there is an issue.

Things to check are the 60A fuse in the drivers seat box and the glow plug relay and wiring . If they are ok then testing the resistance of the glow plugs is next.

That’s true, glow plugs failure when cold can cause that kind of thing.
Funny you say that as I was going to mention that but thought I’d mention the MAP sensor first as it’s easy to check and clean really. Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I have unfortunatly nothing more to bring to the subject, but I was wondering if the turbo gave any signs of weakness or was it just working normally until the limp mode came? I'm having the limp mode with no lights to. Making my Defender great again. (Or trying to at least xD)

the loss of power usually happened either after long fast run. Also, on odd days, strangely, if a wet day on first start up? Engine sounded clattery (bag of spanners) Clearly not a happy bunny didn't like wet days! More recently initially without amber light coming on. It then became more often couple of miles into a journey. Cured by pulling over, switch off and back on engine. Thereafter, back to normal until next trip out. Codes recorded - Turbo over-boost. So far, not happened again follwing tubo replacement on fairly fast run to France. Felt like differnt vehicle altogether. Just the initial start up & short drive blue/grey smoke to sort. Clears quite quickly- then gone once driving. I'll check glow plugs. Would make sence if not up to scratch - unburnt fuel/oil? Many thanks for info'
