Steel wheels
People are now practically giving these away. Looking this morning on Ebay l found a couple of sellers offering five new "take off" steelies with tyres for £400. And still not selling.

l guess it shows that most buyers don't want a new Defender because it "looks like the old one". Buyers aren't used to vehicles without alloys these days. Alloy wheels used to be the preserve of models higher up the range, or the GTi version.

Now, there's not many new vehicles come with steel wheels. And the few that do, have full size wheel trims to cover them up.

The same applies to alloys. I sold five 20inch alloys with barely used Michelin Latitudes off my Defender for £450. Big Cry

Mind you, I bought five new Defender 20inch alloy wheels and new Goodyear AT tyres for £600 fitted so the cost to change wasn't that bad.

I see hopeful prices on here for the same but they don't sell. Mind you, I'm now in the market for some 18inch wheels for some green laning and a trip to Morocco next year so will probably get the LR steels and have them painted. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

I feel like I should be buying them up, as I’d only ever want a 90 commercial in basic ‘arles?’ blue, with a white roof and steelies..

Dealers aren’t keen to order Defenders with them either, when I was ordering this current 90 I could see the look of dread on his face when he asked what wheels, knowing that I like the steels Laughing 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

l've got five steelies in mint condition with around 6,000 miles. Tyres are still very good. Spare unused. £250 for the five.

Is there evidence of the steel wheels being targeted for theft?

Well, unless thieves are stealing whole sets, no.

Nobody is buying them even at £400 for a set of five. So not likely to be the thieves' first choice !

It seems in Australia any 19" alloys going up for sale are taking a while to move, most people are happy
to buy one to add a 2nd spare to their collection rather than a set, all down to the restricted GY tyre
choice. A few have moved to 18" alloys wheels with the rear caliper conversion on D300's/P400's.. or
moved up to 20" to get more choice in terms of tougher off road AT tyres than the OEM goodyears
irrespective of a lower profile to the 19" yet another pommie bar steward down under

The U.K. steel wheels are 18"

I don't think there's many tyre choices with 19" wheels so that will be why those aren't popular.

Thumbs Up Tyre choices were limited to the GY OEM wrangler or Duratracs, hence why it cost a few
of us a shed full of cash to move to 18” yet another pommie bar steward down under

Just grabbed off gumfreek a set of 4 delivery miles steel with Michelin latitude and TPMs for 250 squids.
Swopped them imeditaly. Like the white however satin black would probably look better.

What a mega bargain!
I bought a set of 5 white steelies but with A/T tyres on at full tread for £600. Seems I paid too much Sad

I think dark graphite grey steelies against a black car would look better than black or white though.
