New centrifugal filters always come with a new seal. LR part number for the seal alone is ERR7247

Sounds like an all too common problem - good luck with the repair - but make sure that none of the detritus or swarf gets in the housing.
I’d stick with the original o ring. It’s either fine or it’s not if you know what I mean. All of the rotor filters I’ve had come with a new seal - I’ve never seen them sold separately. Good luck 👍 |

Sorry guys just to clarify, i have to remove the filter housing from the the oil cooler so I can drill a bolt out and the seal Im looking for is out the side of the filter housing where it joins to the oil cooler and is what looks like a 3cm O ring. Part ERR7098 Not the seal that comes with the filter for the lid.

The two o rings which only seems to come with the oil cooler assembly? You will find it extraordinarily difficult to drill out a sheared bolt without damaging the housing since the bolt is steel and the housing light alloy. I would suggest trying to find a second-hand housing (they turn up on eBay etc) to refurbish and swap them over.
The threads in the holes are a very common failure and it is sensible to Helicoil them before fitting the housing. Helicoiled they will be many times stronger and will last forever. |

It's the bolt design that's the problem with the housing top.... The bolt is shouldered so that it's retained with the cap... Unscrewing the bolt to remove it damages the thread, it's all downhill from that point 😕

Just make sure it's right as otherwise you can loose 6 litres of oil very quickly on your way into Bournemouth one morning 😅 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Thanks for your responses, following Blackwolfs wisdom I have sourced a refurbished housing from Turner Engineering that has already been Helicoiled, I think it would of always bugged me as a bit of bodge fix and now hopefully one less thing to worry about during its service and longer runs. lets hope the removal of the old unit goes smoothly as there is no aircon unit above it i'm hoping it will lift out without too much of a fight.
Gave up on trying to source an original O ring ERR7098 for the Oilcooler seal and just gone with the best I could find, thanks everyone A FYI - It did manage a 300mile round trip at the weekend with no leaks and only one bolt holding the cap on but that might of just been luck, not sure how long that kind of luck lasts for... |

I've met examples where the hole has been drilled out to clearance size and a nut has been fitted under the lower housing. It's a bit of a bodge but works.

So today I extracted the centrifugal oil filter housing with some effort but no major drama, fitted the reconditioned (helicoiled) unit which slipped back into position. Drilled out the broken stud in the old one and fitted a long m6 and nut to keep as a spare. And thats that done...
