New hinge.
Best to regularity grease them externally with spray grease, though that isnโt even a perfect way of lubing, but helps a lot directly into the hinge pin joints. Before fitting, you can drive out the tapered pin, cut a thread and insert the grease nipple. Alternatively, drill a hole to be able to lubricate it when the door is open (conical style greaser)

I forgot about that door hinge mod - one I shall have to do that sometime.
Is there any chance one of the smallest grease nipples would fit in there in that location if a small thread was tapped? Iโm tending to think that clearance room isnโt available and 2mm would need to be bigger to fit one.. So the 2mm hole alone may be best, and inject. Iโd imagine a small nipple would need say 5mm clearance and thatโs very close or not quite enough space. Given you would not need to inject grease that often you could get the smallest grease nipple possible , drill the hole and tap a thread in it. Then screw a nipple in to grease then immediately after remove the grease nipple and screw in a blank stop to seal the threaded hole.
But in my view the 2mm hole left as is and a needle coupler or adapter on your grease gun would be easiest, or get that chainsaw grease gun LRA highlighted. Its not like itโs going to get so hot that the grease leaks out , or wet enough for water to get in. |

Very true, I guess the very small 2mm drilled hole would take a pressurised spray grease straw as well as the chainsaw grease applicator.
Or a needle applicator simply on standard grease gun. I was just out of curiosity wondering if there was clearance for say an M4 or M6 straight nipple, a lot of its height would be removed by its threaded section the external nipple section height Iโm not sure what that would be. I guess something like blue tac could go in the gap to see what the gap is there available. Seems a bit sketchy the technical drawings with the dimensions that I could see when having a quick look. What are the smallest sizes? M6 seems common (probably a bit large) there seems to be some m4 Chinese offerings. 1/8" BSP is considerably larger than 6mm.
1/8" BSP OD is 0.383" (or 9.7mm if you're French or under 50). |

BW - I was hoping you may see this thread - do you know what sizes are the smallest grease nipple couplings are?
The ones on the GKN UJs are quite small, the actual straight coupling that goes into the 45 degree housing. M3 seems to be the smallest, must be a very small hole to get grease through though, however I think the thread length at circa 5mm will be too long for the thickness of the hinge plus the protruding nipple will be circa 10mm long.

I don't think the thread size is the problem, rather the size of the coupler part of any nipple.
Given the hassle of tapping a shallow blind hole you're much better off with a plain hole and a chainsaw greaser. |

Yes, I think that may be the issue itโs too close.
There are some hinges on the market that has an external grease point on the exterior to the lower area of the hinge pin, I seem to remember they were very expensive, I know they were posted on here at one point.
