I know across a lot of vehicles people relocated the OBD ports for security reasons. As for the other idea, no idea if it would work, but vandalised car vs stolen are your choices maybe...
Edit - if you fitted an inward facing dashcam you could post their reaction on line and get those viral video bucks$$$ The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@YetitheDefender Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/yetithedefender/ |

OP - I once had a caravan stolen, never seen again.
So I set about designing a fool proof alarm system. When caravan was pitched I would select alarm, which if tow vehicle was to move the caravan ALL front and rear lamps would flash randomly. Also when driver of the tow vehicle selected lamps, indicators, brake lamps ...... the fuses would blow in the tow vehicle !! My insurance company did not like the alarm I had designed and told me to remove it before they would insure the caravan, as, wait for it ........"the tow vehicle driver would be put in danger" .... |

You've had this idea around 17 years after the rest of us! Defender owners have been doing and discussing this since the TDCi was released in 2007 (search the forum if you don't believe me). If you don't want the hassle of moving the OBD port, just fitting a security lock to it is a sensible option. Incidentally, your local dealer or garage won't thank you when your giant electrolytics blow up their £15k Land-Rover Testbook system. |

This is, of course, why it is illegal to have remote immobilisers and so on. You might stop the fleeing villain while the vehicle is on a level crossing or similar. Can't have the public or the scumbags put at risk!. |

Yes, as much as we'd like to instantly vaporise those low lifes, you'll never know the sideeffects. Remote immobilisers don't immediately shut off the engine but only after the vehicle came to a halt (at a red light for instance, which is much more likely in Germany than in the UK ). Also you have to make sure this remote immo _really_ works as intended, i.e. that speed detection actually works. And also that it won't trigger accidentally while _you_ are driving. And that no one else can trigger it (think 'hacking'). And... Safety can be really complicated. When electronic steering locks were new I saw a presentation at a conference on automotive electronics and was blown away be the effort that went into designing the system to make sure it wont lock while driving. |

There are many fake videos on the ‘net purporting to show ‘professional’ thieves ‘easily’ stealing Land Rovers. Much of it is click bait earning the posters lots of money while going unchallenged on the accuracy or otherwise of their claims. Yes, of course cars are being stolen but probably not as many or as easily as some would have us believe.

Statistics tell a different story and keyless systems are still very easy to attack indeed.
Even the German public starts to realize that (25 years after Merc and Siemens invented the bloody thing ) https://www.adac.de/rund-ums-fahrzeug/auss...e/keyless/ Oh, did I mention CAN bus security https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN_bus#Security...? Lucky even the later Defenders still have the CAN bus complexity of a 1990's Fiesta -- Further reading: https://kentindell.github.io/2023/04/03/can-injection/ https://www.autoblog.com/2023/04/18/vehicl...hod-update |

With a signal relay you can steal some Land/Range Rovers in seconds. If the key is protected in the house then they get in through the boot and use a £150 key clone device from eBay to make a new key and drive away. It’s ridiculously easy to do. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

https://ghostinstallations.co.uk Sounds simple, sounds good..but then at £500 it should be! I have the Ghost on one of our cars. It’s easy to use and hopefully difficult to get around, but no idea how it compares to other systems. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |
