This is my best with my D250, doubt I'll beat it unless a very windy day!

I think this was a very good result, towing a 17ft Ifor Williams transporter with Mercedes E Class on and loaded with tools!

The fact you even turned the Auto-start/stop off makes this a truly valiant effort!

lf you stick to around 65mph it's quite easy to average 40mpg on the motorway, and the 50mph limit on A roads in my 90 Commercial is a contributing factor also!

But only 31 miles, doing that over 300-400miles is probably a lot harder. So would maintaining an average speed of 39mph.

For full clarity the engine was warm at the start of that journey as well. My trip average is 33.5mpg.

lt's still a good result for the type of vehicle that it is. My Transit Connect Van struggled to better high 30's MPG and that was a similar size but half the weight and only a 1.8tdci with 110bhp.

From my experience in a D250 110:

- 35 mpg do-able all day long without trying too hard
- 40 mpg quite easy provided the run is over 10-20 miles and you are careful (eco mode not required)
- 45 mpg very tricky, you need lots of luck so as not to stop for traffic lights and roundabouts. Helped by eco mode, no aircon, light load
- 50 mpg impossible unless you are freewheeling down a mountain

Can’t get over 43mpg but only done 1500 miles so early days.

With a VERY light foot, 49mpg is possible. A road, 10C temperature, engine 3000 miles.
