Passengers Manual Windows - slides down
Hi

While riding in rough roads, the rear passengers manual windows opens an inch. I believe this is a common issue since I’ve seen it on my friends Landy.

Is there simple fix to this issue?

Please forgive me joining your post as I too would like to know the answer to this.
Firstly I didn't know it was a common problem (Landrover Shocked )

My Wife's 110 has had this on the rear off side (RHD Vehicle), 15mm each time.

My local independent said Oh Yes, we have solved this by using a heavier water pump grease
on the mechanism, counter intuitive, but it worked. My intention is to get the door cards off both
rear doors and have a look / play around, to see if there is any perceived difference and go from there.

Someone may well come along with more insight here so lets see where this goes.

Oh yes- mine does the same! Wife always suspected our two year olds feet were doing it......I'm not so sure!

Mine does too and I have the impression that there is a foam block glued to the inside of the door panel in such a way that it creates pressure and friction on the crank handle once fitted.

The foam block can unglue itself and thus leaving the crank handle to fit loosely without any resistance and holding power.

I have changed the window crank mechanism (before I came up with the foam block theory) but that made no difference.

All second row door windows are prone to it. I initially solved by hooking an elastic bungee round the window winder, this worked but wasn't exactly convenient.

The permanent and best solution was to convert the second row windows to electric lifters. Problem solved, and you can operate the from the front while driving. Thumbs Up

My fix for this is to orientate the winder handle so that gravity acts on the handle so it doesn't wind the window down

"elastic bungee" - best solution so far.



Winding up and down is still possible, windows stay reliably closed and you get an extra towel hanger for camping. Mr. Green

Asides from the electric window conversion (Which I am saving up for), you can also reposition the handle so it points straight down or as close to it as possible. I found that this stopped my rear windows from inching down on their own. A down side of this is sometimes the rear passenger's knee can hit and turn the handle enough to cause a small gap.

Give it a couple of clockwise turns before fitting and you will have a Twisted performance version. Got to be worth at least an extra 5 bhp. WARNING.

This was a built in feature by Land Rover. The Defender had an image of appealing to an older age group and Land Rover were trying to push it towards a younger age group of buyers. The rational behind the self opening window being, that you could take your take your partner for a drive to a secluded spot and have some nudie nookies . The window would be slightly down (automatically, I might add) to allow fresh air into the vehicle during the proceedings and hopefully keep sweating to a minimum. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
