Snow Chains and Differential

I'm off to the Alps next week. I have LR snow chains but not sure if they should go on the rear or front? I think it's rear...

Also, how can I lock the differential manually (that's standard one between the rear and front wheels that shows on the 4WD digital display with a padlock icon)?

Don't know the answer to your 2nd question, but I do know you have to put the snow chains at the 2 front wheels. Good luck and have fun at the Alpes! Spec: Land Rover New Defender 110 X-Dynamic SE - P400

I think you can only manually lock the centre dif if you selected the configurable terrain response, which is part of the advanced off-road pack when you purchased the car or you have had it enabled by the Gap IID tool etc.

If they are the genuine Land Rover snow chains Land Rover says to fit them on the rear axle as per the instructions - https://accessories-instructions.landrover...r/G2417292 Cheers Ian

NEVER, NEVER on the front wheels on a 4x4. Always on the rear. If you loose traction on the front, it is not too bad. If your rear tries to overtake you, good luck...

iGuide says only fit chains to rear wheels.

I guess in extreme conditions chains might help on all four wheels but then there’s the risk of damage due to rubbing especially with standard width wheels.

I was responding to the comment quoted above which makes no reference to Defenders.

Follow JLR's advice for the new Defender, there is no reason not to use chains on the front of a classic Defender or Series.

Sorry for the bad advice then. It must be a mistake in the Land Rover configurator. The red part reads in Dutch "Recommended for use on the front wheels only."

But the information from the IGuide claims the opposite. I second your advice about the installation on the rear wheels.
