Just replaced my broken heater control unit. A fiddly job (is there a special tool for the clips that hold the cable sheaths to the unit?).
Two questions: The ‘blue’ heat control wire shown on one photo travels very close to the right hand control wheel- should it be routed/ cable tied to the metal frame behind (where circled) to keep it clear of the other controls? A stiff ‘red’ wire was the cause of the previous breakage of the control unit I think. This wire controls the bottom flap on the heater box. I thought the flap was jammed (likely with a .22 case) but after a bit of working the gears directly (shown circled on the other pic- example lifted from the net) they came free and the cable and control now works as it should, but stiff. Can these gears be lubricated- and what best to do that with? Are there other internal gears here as well? Very usefully the cables are colour coded with tape flags- essential for correct relocation! Silicone grease- think I have some. Is that the same stuff plumbers use on O rings etc?
Thanks |

Yes, clear grease, it is quite slick and doesn’t get thickened too much.
Lithium would be a bit thicker imho. Jam up a little in the cold. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
