Also found the 0800 number as part of a Land Rover extended warranty product as the number you call for a breakdown. Again, not JLR, but third party. No idea if it is still current.

When I called back to check I did use the Land Rover Assistance number 0330 053 040 as I noticed the number was different. And they said yes the call was legitimate.

Well, really confused now. Did anybody say what they actually proposed to do to upgrade the seurity? Was this to be done at no charge?

JLR have been rolling out the updates in 'priority' order based on location/model etc. Can book it in with the dealer or LR Assist come to you, takes ~30mins

Hi,
Had LRA out to do N888 (security enhancement Phase 4) on my 24MY RRS this morning. 10 minute job, just needed a key to switch the ignition on and a good 3G/4G signal to download the update as it cannot be stored on their laptop. While he was here he checked on updates for SWMBO’s 21MY D90 and found N874 (security enhancement phase 3 ) and N888 (security enhancement phase 4) were both outstanding. The wonderful chap did both for her while he was here. I check Topix fairly regularly for both our cars and this has only popped up in the last few days! LRA guy said that JLR want them to do the updates if possible to reduce loading on dealers - may be worth a check and book in a visit! Received an email today asking me to book my 90 in for the security update, seeing as it’s going next week I’ll leave it to the dealer. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Received my email today also. Booked in for next week, then got recalled with the option of a mobile tech coming out and doing it on my drive. Saves me driving to Sheffield.Win win.

LR Assist just came out and did the N888 update for me.
Extremely efficient - I only booked it yesterday. The process required both keys, and took 10 minutes. It was a "patch file" downloaded from the chap's OBD-connected programming tool. The chap had no idea what this particular patch does. My car is MY24 and only 3 months old so I was surprised it needed an update of any sort. He said it is the 4th generation of security patches but was not aware of what functionality changed. |

LR Assist did my N888 upgrade today on back of reading this thread:
- called my dealer and they confirmed this was due on my car (MY2024 D250 HSE) - LRA came out 2 hours later, sent me a text with van reg etc - took 15 mins, the most time consuming part was getting a signal - had to use my wifi as weak / no mobile signal where I live - was able to confirm that no other updates due except this one Apparently this upgrade means that if you lose your keys, you would need to replace them AND the security module inside the car, whereas before the keys could be reprogrammed without doing this. |

That actually sounds like a very useful update. Although rather grim if you do genuinely lose your keys.
I have key insurance from the AA which I have used once and it paid for itself straight away, which was for a VW key on my T-Roc. It will be even more worthwhile with this update as I can’t imagine how much it will cost to replace the security module as well. And replacing the security module presumably means that any remaining key(s) you have also need reprogramming. |

l've heard nothing about security upgrades on my 2022 Commercial but it doesn't have keyless entry and l think it's to do with that.
What l have had, is an invitation to renew my "secure tracker" at £250 for one year or £380 for two years. l called my insurance company who said it wasn't a requirement on the policy and would make "no difference" to the premium. l was surprised at this, the LR tracker is Thatcham Cat 6 which is pretty good. |

Same here! I've just received an email about the N888 upgrade and I don't have keyless entry either. Soup Dragon mentioned pairing new keys so that would be relevant to us. Current vehicle: 2020 Defender 110S Gone: Defender 90 HT 200Tdi, Discovery Sport, Freelander 2 Insta: wizzardprang |

Yes, I believe N888 stops cloning of a new key from the OBD socket.
