Service costs
Hi all - hope you are having a great start to the week.

Just a quick question on expected servicing costs. My 64plate 110 2.2 is due a service, 96k/96month to be precise.

Have been quoted £570.

What are your thoughts?

Lincolnshire area for comparison.

Are there any recommended service extras you would ask to do?

The service estimate includes Millers EP 80/90 so I would have thought Gearbox and TBox oil change is included. It is having the Output shaft replaced so access will be good.

Price is on the upper side of typical prices, I would expect brake and clutch fluid change to be included for that at a minimum.

Unless you are particularly worried about service stamps for resale I’d consider doing it yourself if you can (the service) but I know it isn’t an option for everyone for various reasons.

A 4x4 specialist independent can often be good, as they have an interest in the vehicles concerned. NEVER SURRENDER! ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

I did speak the Landrover who wanted £880 and couldn’t confirm if that was plus VAT! 🤑

It is a major service so understand that more needs to be done.

You could try D44, but I expect it’s a long old way down for you and fuel may counter the price as well. NEVER SURRENDER! ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

If you were quoted £880 by the Main Dealer for a major service, they have dropped their prices in the last four or five years.

A major service with my local main dealer was always four figures, but then if your quote was plus 20% VAT, that is just over £1K (which with anyones money is either a lot of money or an extremely good service - I will let you choose)

I use a local independent to me and £570 for a major service sounds about ok to me.

Last service on my MY16 at Marshall LR Gloucester in Aug '23 at 19k miles was a 60k / 60 month service and was £456 incl VAT which I was happy with to keep the main dealer history for now, but not sure if that helps Neutral Rob

Thanks for all the information.

I have booked with a garage that is a LR 4x4 Specialist and the small team down there have been fantastic in their communication and support.

When I did speak to LR they did have a small go at me for being three months late on my 96month service 😂

Cambridgeshire ..

I've been quoted (for a £60k service):

Garage 1: £1,311.39
Garage 2: £1,252.59
Garage 3: £636.27

Looks like the same stuff in each but with wildly varying prices for parts and labour.

None of these is a dealer Confused

I'm inclined to go with the lowest one. Anyone have any recommendations for this area?

Thanks

I just looked that this thread to gloat about all that money I am saving servicing my cars myself, even as I am not skimping on parts and fluid cost.

The garage stamps might have perceived value to some, I personally am not seeing with the typically older cars I buy where garage services are not all that outstanding in general and condition is easy to assess also for any future competent buyer.

It’s very rewarding to do the work yourself, and if you keep receipts, work, date and mileage records I don’t personally think it makes much difference on older vehicles.

As a qualified technician I like to do my own work time allowing, but sometimes it’s just easier to let a good local specialist help out Ride like you stole it!!
