Hi David
There were a few from the UK on the trip this year, with our 110 Poppy being one of only 2 ‘classic’ defenders taking part, with 4 ‘modern' defenders, and some British motorbikes riders. The challenge was set at a fast pace with a lot of miles to be covered in a day, most of it over rough terrane. Some of the modern vehicles had issues with AdBlu quality, but managed to sort it out. All the vehicles that started the event finished under their own steam, however we chose only to undertake the Morocco part of the event so as we could travel slower and enjoy the country, enabling my partner time for taking photos. Thanks. I see there is also a RO-RO option from Dakar. we're going to look at it for either later in the year of next year. My daughters travel a lot so need to find a a gap when we can all do it. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy. |

Whats the safety aspect around driving those parts.... I know that if one was to set off to do that trip on you own (rather than part of an event), it could leave you open to unsavoury types and becoming the main event in a pretty unpleasant film - is that just part and parcel or is there a little more protection to the event? Morocco itself is fine, been twice. Lots of European travellers about, they are used to foreign 4x4s, motor homes etc. can’t comment on Western Sahara, Mauritania, or Senegal, plenty people go that way though. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Wyvern- thanks for the feedback and great pics! Definitely very interested for next winter!
Petrol V8 here so AdBlue shouldn’t be an issue (though range might be though!!Ha) Re: security, a slightly odd take - have been to Morocco before and can honestly say that I’ve been to parts of Italy/France that felt less safe! Mauritania/Senegal a bit more unknown but also fairly quiet and pretty stable countries really - nothing like the organised threat that you might face in South Africa for example Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |
