Mine takes a 17mm socket, they are easily stripped. So it may have been stripped before and replaced by retapping a size up and an oversize plug.

Gotcha, thanks. Thought that maybe the case. Some videos I have seen show the sump plug on the side rather then on the bottom which is where I was a bit confused. - I may just take it to my nearest garage and let them deal with it, especially as I don't have any ramps ect, its a bit of a faff.

Your sump plug looks original to me. Get the engine nice a warm before trying to undo it, much easier to get it moving.
When you get the sump plug out you might want to think about a magnetic version as a replacement https://www.lrparts.net/lrc1512-super-magn...00040.html |

Nice plug thanks! I will certainly invest as that looks like a lovely peice of kit.
I am cautious because of the difference in size to everywhere else I read. The sump plug replacement is Britpart TRL100040 https://www.lrdirect.com/trl100040-sump-plug-td5 I don't have .5mm sockets so my 17mm fits over the replacement plug I have, but in comparison I have to select a 19mm to fit around the plug already in the car. Once I solve the plug issue, yes - good tip! I'll go around the block and give it 30 mins to cool down thanks! |

You don't need a washer, just use a 3 foot breaker bar and really torque it up tight
