I have heard this is a long and tedious process.
I think your challenge will be is that the car will be assessed against the requirements (in France) for the year of build. If you are saying it is a 2007 300tdi, I think you will find the emission requirements for 2007 are too stringent for a 300tdi. All the other stuff lights, etc you can sort even if needed by buying some parts. They are a bunch of snobs in the EU. |

Its a shame that your paperwork doesn't say its a 1994 300tdi (ahem), all the docs are scanned and sent to ANTS online...........

Well there is a physical inspection of the vehicle (CT) where at least the correct VIN number is confirmed and the vehicle basic characteristics, like seating, fuel type etc. Obviously all need to match with the registration documents and be vehicle period correct etc.
But yes the system is not that watertight for Defenders if you know what I mean |

A Kenyan built Defender is going to be a bit of an oddball, if presented for a French CT on a chassis number and Kenyan log book (or equivalent) stating its a 1994 the person will fill out the CT with those details, in theory there should be no other inspection, but its only a theory!
The CT tester I take mine to does a visual smoke test only never mentions the 8" rims with 285 tyres, but gets upset that I haven't taken the film tint off the rear windows or if the rearmost seats aren't fitted, because its listed as a 7 seater and the tints are obvious aftermarket, their paperwork never mentions tyre size. But as a previous poster stated trying to register a ROW spec where it should be a euro 3? (TD5 era) emissions engine probably won't work. When I bought my TDCI in 2009 Foley had some new ROW 300tdis for sale and I asked about UK and subsequent French registration and they advised against it. (edited to change SA to Kenya - I wasn't aware LR's were built in Kenya! But there will always be a little bit of me in Kenya) |
