Engine coolant heater & shower combination?
Hey guys, I don't know if this is the right place for posting "help me" questions.

I'm still digging into the coolant heater - which I guess will likely be a webasto thermo top c, but I've read a lot of info about adding heat exchangers and therefore being able to hook up an external shower etc etc. But frankly my skillset for this aspect of the project ended up there at "Hey guys".

I'm capable of following in depth guides as well as running pipes and plumbing, but I think this might be the sort of project where I hand the Yeti (our defender) over to someone else to carry this out.. unless there is a "idiots step byu step how to guide" out there.

I'm thinking (please advise if this makes no sense):
1. Thermo top C to heat engine coolant in cold climates - running off main fuel tank.
2. Water tank in the arch behind passenger side.
3. Heat exchanger for shower.
4. I'm guessing a pump...then
5. Pipes leading to something like this - https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/products/window-infill-panel with a shower head attachment etc.

Can anyone recommend someone capable of helping - preferably south west based - Additionally am I looking at a lottery winning figure to achieve the above? I'll continue to research on the interwebs and this might just fall flat, but any guidance would be appreciated. The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

The cost of that set up would buy an awful lot of campsite overnights with showers 😁

I fitted an erberspacer hydronic heater into the engine cooling system of a mk 7 transit that I'd converted into a little camper..
The issues I came across were firstly I had to change the ecu in the heater.. The max temp on the stand alone heater I was told would be to high for the engine cooling system, and that was in spite of specifying what I intended doing with the heater to the supplier..
Once fitted into the cooling system it allowed me to preheat the engine.... And also provide blown air heating to the van through a dedicated fan/heat exchanger unit, and also provided hot water for the sink and a little external shower unit I installed..
The other issue was when parked up and I wanted heating and hot water I was always heating the engine as well, which was unnecessary when camping.. Got round that by fitting a solenoid valve to prevent circulation round the engine, the downside of that was the valve consumed about 0,5amps.. I could have fitted a manual valve I suppose but because it interfered with normal coolant circulation I didn't want to be in a position where I forgot to open it before setting off.. I used relays to ensure that couldn't happen with the solenoid valve..
That's the main points I can remember... But a great system... And a bonus was that driving the vehicle also provided the heating and hot water without the hydronic heater been used.. So you always arrived at camping location with hot water and a warm van..
Edit..
As mentioned.. It wasn't a cheap fit

I do appreciate that. I think perhaps this will need stages of work. The reason for the thermo top c is that most of our adventures tend to be winter based and with planned trips to scandinavia, a frozen engine isn't a great idea. So I definitely need help with fitting that.

The shower idea is the alternative to some warm water in a bowl, but additionally with a doggo, external water would't be a bad idea, but not essential. The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

I think it depends on where and how often you're planning on using it. Your post suggests winter trips?

I drove Cape Town to North Cape of Norway in the 110. I had a shower fitted but only used it once! Just more junk clattering around the car adding extra weight....

If you're out somewhere properly remote, you're probably going to be looking at saving your water anyway.

Very good point camelman, I suppose I hadn't really thought of it that way.

Perhaps winter trips with an outdoor shower isn't smart anyway, better a warm wet cloth! Laughing The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html
