It seems dealers are the same world wide, lol. I'd push for a new shaft, especially since it seems there's a new 'nipple-less' design.

Your prop will be OK don’t worry, just get hold of a new grease nipple and screw it in.
Don’t bother with the sealed for life stuff, buy yourself a grease gun and a couple of tubes of lithium grease and give the front and rear prop ujs a couple of pumps of fresh grease every two or three months. Learn to do your own maintenance and keep away from the main dealers, if a job is too tricky to tackle yourself then there are plenty of good independent LR specialists who will do the job properly for a fraction of the cost of a main dealer. I’ve been driving Defenders for 20+ years and they do tend to make odd noises and clunks but they keep on going. |

I have fortunately a grease gun and all the kit - i also have a friend who is a LR specialist with his own business...so win win.
Warranty wise and first set of servicing on all our new cars we use the dealer - I do all the servicing on the cars out of warranty - but it will be 2 years before the 90 gets that. Reassuring it wont be damaged. Mike |

I'm a bit confussed with this bulletin regarding the grease nipples. If they are just missing from the UJ's then why would you replace the whole propshaft? Unless you ran them dry and collapsed the bearings then continued to drive untill the race spun and you finally started to wear the yoke... Now if you didn't hear and feel all that happening, your stereo is much better than mine!
To me it was saying that if the nipple was missing on the propshaft AKA the one for the splines replace it. Which is the case for my Fender as they are absent on mine yet according to some here they have them. Ive been asking my dealer to look into it as I can't for the life of me understand why they would not have ones for the splines as they are surely the ones most likely to get gunk in them. |

mse,
Found the rear nipple in my 90's front prop missing recently. I'm sure it was there to start with though. Main dealer replaced the prop with no question. Hope this helps. The only problem is, or maybe later on, there is no nipple for the sliding joint. Bosun. |

thanks - i emailed them yesterday but no response today. Im happy to have a replacement, but it would be a shame to not have the grease point. Mike |
