Not entirely correct....... 40mpg is not great if my petrol can do 36mpg carrying the dreaded "evil cant fit a towbar battery" (it can). My VW T5 will do 40mpg+ and again is heavier and the Volvo XC70 will do 50mpg+ but lighter, lower and can run in FWD, so expected |

l guess it depends on the type of vehicle and use.
l could get 40mpg on a run from my BMW which was a 3.0 litre petrol engine. l guess it was lighter and more aerodynamic. Even my wife's VW Up (1.0 litre petrol) struggled to better 35mpg in the type of use l put it to in my business. That is, short journeys between customers. Never tried that with the BMW! For that kind of use a hybrid would probably be perfect. But LR don't do a hybrid Defender Commercial. The lneos Grenadier has effectively the same 3.0 petrol engine as my BMW and it manages around half the MPG. |
