A novel approach to a rusty chassis from crazy Edd...
An interesting approach but not wholly practical I feel since it involved around £12k-worth of Evaporust. The immediate results were impressive though.

I wonder where the dunk tank came from.

An interesting watch Blackwolf - thanks for sharing.

I wouldn’t want to paddle in the pool after that piece of work - although I’m sure I’d feel rejuvenated…

The product reminded me of Bilt Hamber Deox-C which I’ve been using for a number of years. I use the water-based environmentally friendly solution, however there’s also a gel-based version similar to Evaporust.

When I first used the former, I couldn’t believe the results. Just for fun, and to test the effectiveness of the product, I submerged a rusty old nut and bolt I found lying in the yard outside - you could hardly tell what it was - and it came out spanking.

For the purpose of removing rust, I use a product by HG - Rust remover. I guess its same chemical.

However, in the video by Ed, he said that he wants a clean chassis for hot dip galvanizing. What such chemicals do NOT do is remove paint, which is the #1 enemy for a successful hot dipping. Hence why many used chassis that are hot dipped will rust faster from the inside out as the hot zinc will burn off any internal protection leaving the inside unprotected. Unless of course they go through a dip strip before sending for galvanizing.

My local galvanizers accept rusted parts - their pre treatment acids are very effective to clean any rust, even heavily encrusted before the parts are dipped in the zinc baths. Any pre galvanized parts will have a extra stripping charge. Painted parts are not accepted.
