Defender TDCI cutting out. | |
Hi everyone,
just to let you know, I have had an on going problem with my 2.4 puma 90 defender on a 2010 plate. It started to cut out at traffic lights or round abouts very occationaly, after a few weeks got more regular, then finally I could not get off the drive way, it started and ticked over perfect, but as soon as I touched the throttle, it sent it into a frenzey of very uneven tick over and miss fire. The only way to stop it was to turn off and wait a few seconds , then restart , in tick over fine, touch the throttle and all hell let loose, just like fuel starvation. I checked and replaced the fuel filter for a genuine Landrover one, still the same problem. I then looked on this site, to see if anyone had the same problem, yes there was a few, it looked to be the VCV valve [volume control valve] it gives the same or simular simptoms that a faulty injector does. Not a too difficult job, but needs to be taught when fitted, so had to go to Bourton Landrover, I didnt say what I thought, I just told them the simptons and left it to them.
Yes it was the VCV valve, they did the teach on their computer and it ran perfect all the way home. I am now smiling again, untill the next time , not too soon I hope.

Thank you Ianh for the reply, I will remember your advise, would it be the same for the cam shaft sensor on the top of the engine? the reason I ask is becouse I ordered a new one when the Landy was playing up, and it has arrived.
