Hmm. I'm definitely of the opinion that I will wave to Grenadiers but not the 663 unless they wave first, but I've never seen a 663 wave once yet. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

When I took Mrs RDR to look at them her words were "so this isn't made by Land Rover? it looks the same"
I do have some banter going on with a local farmer whenever we pass on our lane (which is often) if i'm in the L663 I will make a point of waving he will then give me the finger from his "Proper Defender" 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE RR MY23 HSE PHEV D5 MY19 HSE - Now Sold D4 MY16 HSE Luxury - Now Sold D4 MY12 HSE - Gone D3 MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten |

A couple of years back I did a similar thing. It was a misty day on a country B road and I waved at what looked like a defender emerging from the mist. There was no wave back and as it passed I saw it was an old G Wagon !
I felt “Dirty” for weeks after |

Haha. We're not yet a month into Defender ownership and we still panic wave when we see another Defender... I think we forget that there are other defenders on the road too! Make a habit of parking next to them though... Also, is the wave only for other defenders? or are modded discos included in this - I'm so new to this... Had a Freelander wave to us the other day, I wasn't sure if we were supposed to wave back, or attach a tow rope and drag it off into the undergrowth... Need a sticky on the correct etiquette. Also drove past a costa coffee shop and had someone randomly wave at us - wasn't sure if they'd forgotten they were in costa and not their own defender. “Wave protocol “ is a slight area of debate on here, but I believe the consensus is only at “classic” defenders, Land Rovers and series. Not discos, freelanders , range rovers etc. As to new defenders, that spurred a heated debate but most don’t wave to them. Although if I do get a wave I always wave back.
And yes you do feel bad if you get a wave but don’t see it to the last minute and wave back too late I really like the wave, it just feels like an old school polite thing to do, and another nice thing about defender ownership. In and around Essex, Suffolk, Cambs and Hertfordshire it happens a lot. I did notice while in Yorkshire, around the York, where there are a lot of great looking “working” defenders the wave was was not reciprocated as much, maybe because they would have been waving about 20 times a day |

Interesting... (for us anyway)
OK in the spirit of full disclosure.. I'll admit to twice now being cought out by a New Defender waving at me, and it being too late to return the 'complement'... (i'm just not expecting it) I really don't want to give the impression of an us and them 'stand-off', with two rival camps... In my defense most New Defenders just glide past in the opposite direction without any acknowledgment of its famous ancestor... but hay ho, I'll just have to be more primed for those in their New Wheels that know SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

I suggest that a Grenadier driver who self-identifies as a Defender driver should be treated as a Defender driver. |
