ABS will not improve stopping distances - remember it operates by releasing the brakes to stop the wheels locking.
Its not much help if all four lock at the same time, like on ice Where it will help is in helping you keep control if the wheels on one side of the vehicle lose grip. Traction control, which comes as part of the ABS can help maintain forward motion in certain situations. Most common faults seem to be with the cables to the sensors (I had one of mine replaced under warranty) or the shuttle switches in the ABS valve block, but are relatively easy to trace if you have a code reader that can read the ABS codes (Nanocom etc). |
