Series 3 88" Project Initiated
Hello, after a long time searching (years) on Saturday this week I collect a new to me but sorry looking 1972 Series 3 88" Diesel. It's not in great shape but it's mostly original and it needs to be saved. It's going to be a long-term project for me, but I thought I'd get one that's ropey for not a lot of money rather than one that looked better but had the same amount of ropiness only a lot more expensive.

There will be some big expenses as it does need a chassis, the bulkhead will need to be repaired, the fuel system overhauled, the engine does run but has a major fuel leak, and there are no doubt many many other issues that will be found.

Galv chassis wise, my 90 has a Marsland, but I guess the decision will be Marsland or Richards but plenty of research will be done as the biggest hurdle will be to tell the wife and to get some kind of undercover workshop built!

Matt

Absolutely love a Series 88" truck cab Thumbs Up Used to have a 2.25 diesel called Herb. Great little pickup. Good luck with the rebuild.

Thank you, It left the factory as a station wagon originally, but I really want a canvas top option as well. The Patina will stay, hopefully.

Ah well I think I am justified in posting up my old 88" truck cab... Thing was cold and noisy but I loved that thing. Full of character.

They do look great as a truck cab. Really looking forward to getting stuck in (for now) it's a proper project as it will need everything out but at least it's complete so I can see & document where everything is supposed to be.

For a little bit it's going to be easy not telling the wife as it won't be in the garden, but I'm probably going to have to fess up. At least it's still November so the fireworks might blend in a bit 🙃🫣 300tdi 90 CSW

I admit that I am wrong to use the word "patina". I have associated the word "patina" to be patterns created to an object by age and having been subject to the weather & other input that in this case give a vehicle a "period look". I am wrong though; it is the incorrect word to use as it's none of the below. So, in this case it's just tatty patchy faded paint caused by decades spent outside that I like and would like to keep Smile

See synonyms for patina on Thesaurus.com

noun

a film or incrustation, usually green, produced by oxidation on the surface of old bronze and often esteemed as being of ornamental value.

a similar film or coloring appearing gradually on some other substance.

a surface calcification of implements, usually indicating great age. 300tdi 90 CSW

No stick with it. It’s a word used (overly or not) in our special Land Rover world. We all understand it.

Great looking Landy and great project.

Good luck and keep us posted 👍
