Still trying to track my mystery noise, can anyone help?
So Ive checked everything now.
I have what I think was pinking on my 4.0 v8 efi.
Ive checked the timing over and over.
I have just done a full service and put fresh oil and filter in.
I dropped the sump and there is no sign of any metal in there, all looks good.
I have had a bore scope down the spark plug holes and can't see any issues.
I have just this morning done a compression test, however I now read I need to do it warm and with oil down the bores. However they are all showing reasonable.
I think with a warm engine and oil I would see the 160-190. But they are all of equal pressure so that's good yes? I will redo the test next weekend as I have run out of time.
I have tightened all the manifold bolts but can't see any signs of leakage there.
The spark plugs all look good, except 1 that looks like it may of had blow by, this could be the cause of my ticking at high load high rpm?
I have ordered another set of new NGK spark plugs just in case.
