It is a very easy job to do.
Protect the area from scratching by painters tape. A jigsaw with a metal blade did the job perfectly for me (I drilled 2 small holes next to each other to start, but one larger hole is also good). After cutting, I filed the edge to deburr but also to straighten the cuts. Advise to paint the edge to prevent corrosion. The locking strip in the rubber profile should be installed on the inside for better visual appearance. If the rubber profile is of correct length, then it is good. I installed 2nd hand glass, so purchased rubber profile by the meter. A very sharp knife can do clean cuts, and I cut a bit oversize and compressed the rubber as much as possible as rubber tends to shrink overtime. Also for the locking strip...if you stretch it, it will will go in easier, but then it will shrink over time, so try not to stretch it. Lube helps fitting, do not use dishwashing, it promotes corrosion. I used petroleum jelly, that is kind to the rubber. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Hi Dinnu
Appreciate your reply- really helpful to read before I get started. Great tip about painting the inside to prevent corrosion. Will post some photos as I get on for anyone else doing this for the first time Keswick green 2007 Defender 90 TD5 |

All went ok- thought the hardest bit was cutting - turned out fitting the glass in to the seal wasn’t as easy as I expected...
Great tips Dinnu- really helped plus having the locking strip facing inwards looks much better. Seems like most people fit the locking strip facing outwards? (as is the case with the side windows installed before I bought the defender) Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Keswick green 2007 Defender 90 TD5 |

Looks great.
Re the locking strip orientation, it is like that sine the early 90s and 110s. In the series the locking strip faces outwards. One thing I forgot to advise you, the ends of the profile are on the center of the vertical sides, not at the bottom. And the ends of the locking strip would be on the other side (like a rotation of 180degrees) from the ends of the main profile. I will take picture of mine ti understand what I mean. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

This is a left side factory installed quarter window. The ends of the rubber are on the outer side of the window.

Cannot help with a template, but maybe these help. The opening is slightly larger than the glass.
