Ooooo 1989 90. So, I take it must have the little switch down by the right knee?
It is weird that the lights remain on when the doors are closed, makes me think that ones of the door switches is faulting. It is possible for the spade connector to make contact with the inside of the A pillar when closed (light on), and not make contact when open (light off). Sometimes this can happen if the switches have been installed in the wrong orientation. The 90 degree spade should either be up or down, not left or right in relation to the A-pillar. First check is to pull out the switches and check as much of the wire as possible and the switch. |

It’s a long long time since I’ve owned a 90 that old, but from memory they didn’t have door operated interior lights, they only came in with the 200tdi, so what has been done could be anyone’s guess.

Indeed, my 1988 has the switch, which should be PRC7371 by the knee. It has 3 positions. Off, in the center position, and either switching the dash illumination (only when the side lights or main beams are on), or switching the inner light.
No door switches, although there is a hole for it in the A pillar, but no bracket on the door. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

As above, no door switches for that era. but definately the rocker switch to turn interior lights on or dash lights off (I loved that feature.... a nod to its military roots but also when ambling around at night without illuminating your own face)
But as the door switches are an obvious past owner addition, who knows what they've done. Not sure if mixing the earth to a +ve would give the same results or blow a fuse. |
