The engine noise is less at around 60/75 mph i've found with the Alive map.
Are you finding the gear changing less troublesome - no clutch snatch? |

I get a rumbling feeling around 2000 rpm under heavy acceleration. Not sure if it's good or not but I will check in with Gary next week to give some feedback. He mentioned something about possible torque vibration in the front prop... Gear changing (or lack of it) is less troublesome for several reasons: 1) To avoid the notchy 1>2 change, I generally pull away in 2nd. Now it's much smoother with the extra torque. 2) Likewise, I have avoided the horrible kick at 2>3 by staying in 3rd as long as possible when slowing - again more torque has definitely helped 3) A side effect of learning to change 2>3 ridiculously gently has been less clutch snatch in all gears (improved driving style?) but I have to say the 3rd gear problem seemed less today - I barely noticed my usual irritation (but that could have just been the fun of driving a "souped up" 110 with some "oomph" Actually, point 3) is very significant, as my fury and sadness at the b*stard mechanic who killed my 3rd gear now seems a little more distant. Things just seem that bit better now Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

That's noticeable for me. Before you'd get a random clunk as the clutch decided it didn't want to work smoothly. Since the map it is pretty rare it happens. I can't see an obvious reason for this change - the only thing is the new map... Interesting.

Thanks for the advice. I only start in 2nd on flat or downhill tarmac and when I'm not fully-laden or towing anything. The ratio in second seems pretty low anyway and there's very little slip when pulling away. A couple of members on this and other forums do it and seem to have no problem after a few years. I'd rather preserve the gearbox than the clutch for now and, if necessary, get them both changed in the UK shortly before (LR) or after (Ashcroft) warranty expires. In any event, I need to get the turbo sealed first at a different German LR dealer - wish me luck Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. Seems extremely likely... I'm taking the heat shield off tomorrow if I get the chance and looking for soot egress. Otherwise I will drive around until the manifold is good and hot, remove the bonnet, then strap my son onto the engine so he can hear what's going on as I drive up hills in second gear besides... checking stuff is for girls Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
