Immobiliser - TD5
Hi,

Is there any way of permamently deactivating the factory immobiliser ?

Mine has an aftermarket (Hawk) alarm that does the central locking too, plus I now use a Swivel-lock... but need to have the OEM keyfob on my keyring for when the factory immobiliser decides to activate.

Maybe a simple thing I'm doing wrong, or how the aftermarket Hawk is configured.

TIA

The passive immobilizer (the system that requires the plip to be present) can be turned off with most diagnostic tools. Assuming that whatever alarm you have never requires you to press the buttons on the original plip you should be able to leave it at home.

My Td5 has no alarm, no central locking and no receiver ring around the ignition barrel. Just a dump key which always works. All the 10AS does is fade the interior light.. ohhh.

From what I understand there is still a check between the ECU and the 10AS to 'unlock' the ECU, not sure what security that provides as with the Nanocom you can re-match the two. I rather my ECU did not have the 10AS check feature to make it a little less possible for something to go wrong. I think you can have that programmed out but you have to send it in to a specialist company. At that point all the ECU needs is power and that's it.

If the 10AS was to die all I would loose is the interior light dimming. I think I could just about live with that!

Most of the tuning companies should be able to disable the handshake between 10AS and ECU

I've had one done by Pete Bell at BAS. It's a physical process (or al least was on mine) rather than a software change. 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power
