It's almost always more cost-effective just to fit a pair of new rear calipers.

My advice is to change both rear callipers for new items. They aren’t that costly, and it’s a proper fix. They don’t last long on defenders.

OK, problem I'm having is , 4 week waiting list at our local garages to have a look.....
Anybody know of good mobile mechanics in Nottinghamshire /newark area I'll look into buying a caliper windback tool and have a quick look |

Any independent will be able to sort or it’s an easy DIY job if you have any ability.

OK thanks....... the caliper wind back tool , Machine mart do one with the two spade like parts and then a socket winder on the top ....is this correct?

no need for a piston wind back tool if you are careful, some form of lever will do.

As long as you are careful that might get you through the winter. If however you have one that has properly seized you probably won't shift it. Be careful also that you don't damage the ridiculously fragile dust seal.

If you’re after a tool that you can use to gently push back the rear and front ( it’s 88mm wide ) calliper pistons the neilsen ct0078 at circa £20 works well, it’s the same as the Clarke 5113 which is circa £62 at machinemart.

I just changed the rear pistons of a 110" and it was very easy. I did not change the seals as they were still good. Puma 110" SW

After ringing our local garages and a 2 _3 week waiting time, I decided to attempt it myself.... once the pads were out the two outer seals were no good one perished and one hanging off..... spent a good hour or so cleaning ....pressing the pistons in and out ......
PADDOCKS, had a seal rebuild kit...... been for a run ....all ok 👍 I purchased a 11.99 windback tool of amazon .... this I could highly recommend and the build quality 👌 |
