UK Floods

For those in the UK this weekend, firstly I hope you're all safe and not too badly impacted by the weather. And assuming you are ok, how did your Defender cope with the floods!? Any splashy pictures welcome!

I was up in Derbyshire/Leicestershire this weekend with my wife and baby and was thanking the heavens I chose this beast of a vehicle - it didn't skip a beat. I found the wading depth feature really helpful - it's not every day I'm driving through deep water and knowing the difference between .5m and .8m water isn't easy. Mostly it was far shallower than that, but that extra level of confidence allowed us to pass roads and get to where we needed to be, safely. It was also useful for other road users who could judge depths of floods based on my vehicle to determine if the road was passable in their own vehicles.

On the other hand, I did feel slight pangs of nervousness - it felt like EVERYBODY wanted to see a new defender get stuck!

The only issue I had was a camera out of action for a few minutes. I'm not sure why, but it fixed itself.

On a side note, I saw Inchcape JLR in Derby got a little soggy on Saturday - I wonder what happens to those vehicles once the tide goes out - auction? parts?

Those which have water inside will be sold to a salvage dealer as uneconomic to repair, those which haven't will probably be dried out. In the case of customer vehicles there will be an argument over who pays, and ultimately everyone's insurance will get even more expensive.

Or PI claim......looks like someone didn't provide a correct flood risk assessment for the development / redevelopment.

Seems to be a ‘Medium risk’ area meaning that it has a chance of flooding of between 1% and 3.3% each year. Might need to revise that now…

We live just outside Chesterfield which was hit bad by the floods, some places flooded really badly with cars submerged and areas that have never flooded flooded. Somethings changing... 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Sad thing is if it had been the old Defender a couple of days with a heater inside no body would of been any wiser. The carpets are normally moist anyway

I guess the severity of the floods is what's caught them out. A 5% chance of flooding by an inch or two isn't too worrying... but 1% @ 4 foot is a different story!

Wow that's a lot of Land Rovers totalled. Some may be salvageable if the engines haven't been started.

This will happen much more in the future.
So, UK government invest in your infrastructure and water engineering direct. No Mud flaps for my 90.!

Don’t you realize that the only reason Y2K wasn’t an issue is that all the hype raised about it motivated people to fix the problem before it occurred?
