EV not available.... Think I know the answer but...
... had my 21 plate 110 P400e X Dynamic SE. It starts in Hybrid mode with engine running every morning. I have 2 miles of country roads on my commute then I am in town and go to select EV mode, but it says 'EV is currently unavailable', EV stays grey and it goes back to Hybrid. As I have read before, if I turn the heater fan off, it allows me to select EV and it works, and then I can turn the fan back on.....

My questions are -

Does it sound like my EV heater has gone?
Or is this normal until the car has been run for a good time (more than 10-15 mins)
I really don't want to have to take it in after a week Mad

It came from a main dealer, was serviced 300 miles ago.

It could be a heater matrix problem. Sounds exactly like what i had in my RR (Just Rejected) I wasn't able to do any small trips at one stage as it took 2 miles before it would let me go into EV they had to install a new heater matrix and do something with the battery.

Do you use the pre-condition function & set your departure time?

If I do that, it will start in EV mode (on a cold day), but if I don't the engine will start. Didn't notice it in the summer when the battery would have been warmer.

Thanks guys, Nick, I can't use the pre-conditioner as it is plugged in overnight to take advantage of Octopus cheap rates, but no I don't. It is only c.9 degs here in the am's, and c.14 degs in the afternoon when I get in to go home. I haven't done any longer trips this week, but will be doing a 30 mile drive this afternoon. It appears that the battery is working from cold on Hybrid mode (I can see the blue boost indication on the guages).

Nearest LR dealer to me cannot get me in for c.5 weeks......

should add the matrix i needed was on back order, basically it was creating a massive power draw which is one of the criteria to force the car into Hybrid. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Sounds like the same issue I, and many others, have had.

I took it for a longer (20 mile) run yesterday and it started behaving correctly after a short while.
Last night I had the doors open for 3-4 hours as I fitted side steps which is clearly a drain on the battery, so this am it started with engine and full revs. I will give it a good run later today and see how tomorrow am is.

I have disconnected the Dashcam (which was plugged with a garmin adaptor set for 10 hour parking cam) in the OBD port. I am hoping this drain overnight was the reason it was playing up. TBH I have cameras at home so only really needed the dash cam when driving. How do other P400e drivers power their dash cams?

Thank you all again, glad to be part of a helpful, friendly forum.

..... and just seen this. Powerful UK cam tap, is NOT to be used on P400e..... does that point to an issue?

Please can someone confirm, that even from a cold start, it should start in electric? The car is not doing this, and EV is only available after a good run, or if I turn the heater fan off. Got to wait a month for the dealer service team to fit me in. Big Cry

It should start in the cold weather I think above -4c (need to check) we had all this with my RR which I am assuming is the same system.

If the matrix is fubar it creates a massive electrical load which trips the parameter to start the engine that's what was happening to mine. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Thanks RDR, I have put it back on the supplying LR dealer to book me in with them and sort quickly rather than waiting for my local main dealer.

Milesg7 - see the link I sent you above. It's the same issue many of us have had with the p400e - HV coolant heater broken, which means the petrol engine has to run for a while for the coolant to heat up. This is why it won't start in the cold.

Take it to the dealer, who will replace the HV coolant heater under warranty.
