Ex-factory mileage
Dear community,

A few days ago, my dealer presented me my new Defender 90, I‘m going to collect it next week. The car is no doubt brand new as every transport stuff was still mounted (factory stickers, foam protection on doors, display foils etc.). However, today I discovered on a photo taken, that it has 40km mileage ex factory (25 miles) which normally should be a third or likely even less.

Has anybody similar experiences or a proper explanation?

Thanks in advance!

Just the test drive as part of the pre-delivery inspection surely?

thank you for your reply... and maybe yes - but why do all the other Defenders come with 3-7 miles, then?

When I worked in the motor industry, a sample of vehicles were subjected to a slightly longer quality control road test, std qc control used to be over a squeak and rattle loop.

Thank you Trevorb1 - I hoped some insider might come up with an explanation like this, for it sounds plausible and helps with calming my worries.

So it could be a good thing, as the car might have been tested more intensely, then.

A more frightening approach is, if it were done due to a severe incidence during production that caused further testing...

By the way, my car (L663 90) has indeed a bit of an issue. It's about spilled glue on the rear window inside as many seem to have but unfortunately mine has also impacted the armrest as well. Hope we get that removed with small intervention Wink

I have a suspicion that the odometer is only activated at PDI so you have no idea really how many miles any new Land-Rover has covered before delivery anyway. I wouldn't worry.

Odometer is active from the moment it’s powered up in factory

Given that distance your car has been part of an audit, quality control drive

Having bought about 10 new cars this has been the case on 2 - 1 Ford and 1 Land Rover

My Defender had 20 miles on it when I got it last October. It's got 18500 on it now. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.
