TD5 seriously hot exhaust gasses

Hi,
Recently had cause to replace the head gasket on my 1999 10p TD5 as had a serious coolant leak that i couldnt track down.

To say the head gaske was s*****d would be an understatement!

As part of the gasket change I used 3 cable ties to ensure the timing chain stayed where it was on the top sprocket.

The change went fine and was pleased when she started 1st time. I now definiotely dont have any coolant leaks. However ....

The exhaust gasses are definitely far far hotter than they were before or comppare to my other td5. Also after driving for 5 or 10 moins defintiely get a burning oil smell as if some landed on exhaust and is being burnt off.

When i fitted the upper sprocket had no trouble fitting the 3 bolts, they all went in easily, but I am now wondering if the timing chain may have sliped along a tooth when i fitted it back on.

Would it be possible to fit the sprocket 1 tooth out even when its all cabletied to the chain so it cant move at that end?

Also got an occasional missfire and unburnt diesel at the exhaust for a while when i start up.
