Head gasket repair Surrey/Hampshire
Hi,

After lots of problems with overheating it appears to be the head gasket 😩
Anyone know of any places local to the Surrey/Hampshire area that they would recommend and are reasonable?

Thanks

Thanks, after some reading some suggest it’s better to just replace the engine rather than head repair due to costs involved in repair??
Mine is at 120k so it might be a better option as it would be the time to have timing chain replaced also! Any thoughts?

Depends if it’s just the gasket blown. Avoid the cheapo aftermarket engine parts and rebuild kits the quality leaves a lot to be desired. Oversized pistons and non standard bearings are available for these engines.

Turner Engineering are about the best to deal with for LR engine parts.

I used Safari Engineering in Eversley for a service and some other bits and pieces and they did a great job. Really seem to know their stuff.

If oil pressure, compression are within specs and valve train wear look like 120kkm I do not see why you want to get a new engine. And I would first check as well the egr cooler.
As mentioned in the forum sometimes head failure has been misdiagnosed. Puma 110" SW

The only reason im thinking new (when I say new I mean a recon engine) is because of the cost.
Initial estimates for HG repair including new timing chain are around £3500.

A recon engine (albeit from eBay!) are around £1600, so trying to work out if labour costs on engine swap as more straight forward would be worth it.

Well, I do not know but hopefully guys from this forum should be able to advice you if a recon engine is the way to go. I find it scary unless an engine is provided by a reputable shop. Puma 110" SW

I would check out ford transit engine repair specialists and get a quote for the work from them. I expect it will be significantly less then the £3.5k you have been quoted.

Be careful as I’ve said of “recon” engines with cheap pattern parts.
