My Defender 90 D250 will average 26mpg while towing our caravan. That's driving at the maximum allowable speed for much of the time, although l do spend some time on the motorway at 55mph rather than 60mph.

But 20-21mpg for a diesel 4x4. My 110 2.2 is towards the high 20’s and it’s used pretty hard, 160k plus miles and 9 years old.

For 2023 that’s pathetic. If it’s doing 20-21mpg what happens when it’s towing something heavy and a load of kit in the back. It’s going to be in the 10’s. Our vans are doing 20-36mpg now. The newer ones are getting even better.

Your 110 is also missing over 100hp and lots of torque. Doesn’t have to meet the same emissions standards. Weighs less as it doesn’t have to meet the same crash standards, has way less features and a manual gearbox.

Ie if you put your engine in a Grenadier I bet it wouldn’t do the mpg you get with your 110 either.

Seems I am doing well in my L663 110 then. 1year and 16k miles, I average 22.7mpg. Should mention mines a P525 and I live in a major city...... M

Customer of mine has the diesel version and he's getting 20-21mpg in mixed driving.
The vehicle had done around 2,000 miles in total.

This isn't far off what my old Defender used to achieve. My new Defender is a bit better, averaging around 26mpg in town driving and around 35mpg on a run (keeping 60/70mph where appropriate, it's a Commercial so 60mph on dual carriageways)

This is of interest to me as l may swap my Defender for the 5 seat Grenadier Commercial

does he live in the USA where its a smaller gallon ?

Consumption is 5...10% higher when car is brand new.

As a comparison how does its fuel consumption compare to say a Discovery 4 which was pretty portly at 2650kgs, so somewhat similar in the weight department?

Keep in mind, Grenadier's WLTP fuel consumption is 23MPG (UK)!!

Logic and experience dictates you should achieve around 19 to 21 in real life (see my earlier post above). An FJ76 with an 4.0 V6 petrol engine does not consume more than this and can carry around a metric ton.

MPG definitely not great compared to other diesel 4x4s... Not as good as old defender and well off what modern 4x4s / New Defender are achieving.

My dad has one and gets about the same range out of a tank as I do from my V8 L663 Defender 110.

It's just very, very heavy and top gear isn't very high Cheers, David
Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8.
