We can't normally go fast enough to break speed limits |

The solution to this is a 2.5 N/A engine, the only speed cameras you'll be setting off would be in 20mph limits

I think I'd consider a speeding fine a badge of honour in a Defender Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

friend of mine got stoped he was doing 35 in a 30.
His choice was points and fine or go in to the primary school he was stoped seeding past and stand infront of the kids and explain why he was speeding,if theres a next time he's taking the points he said it was awful standing in front of a bunch of 5 year old while the gave him the third degree. |

Have done this to, 70 in a 60 on the A5 at Oswestry.
Was better than expected but as a advanced motorcycle rider I felt that they were bending the statistics to prove a point. A lack of observation and anticipation skills seem to be the biggest issues. I also noted most of the offenders were from offences in built up areas which is quite saddening. |

Maybe due to most speed cameras being in built up areas? One 4 mile stretch of road I know has 8 speed cameras on it. Oddly enough local resident have told me no major incidents. Further two miles up the road two primary school but no cameras. Where is the danger zone? Also most journeys are done in built up areas. Yes you can use statistics to prove almost anything you want to. Brendan |

I had the course option a few years ago.
Only problem was I was on holiday in North Wales at the time. They insisted I took the course in North Wales - 600 mile round trip plus two nights B&B! So I took the points and the fine. One for the locals, one for the rest..................... |

I had one earlier this year. 35 in a 30... Just wasn't concentrating on my speed - the same answer as nearly everyone who was asked 'Why were you speeding?'.
Was very surprised to note that I was one of (maybe) 2 or 3 under the age of 30... As it was nice and close, definitely worth avoiding the points IMHO. |

I think it is all older people because everyone under 30 has a satnav which warns them of all cameras- as a result they do speed, but never get caught!
When I was in Germany I got a letter for doing 70kmh in road works (temp 50kmh limit). It cost me a total of 60 euro (£40), no points or courses. I feel that is a much better system. The fine equates to many things such as where you are and how much you were doing... eg. just over the limit on a motorway in the middle of nowhere would be about £30-50...... Just over the limit in a residential area would be about £80-100...... Just over the limit in a school zone- get your suit out, you are going to court. Glyn |

Speed in a work zone in Canada then penalty is doubled.
Work zone = road works coned off with proper signage etc. Brendan |

This is ludicrous, but it's not a Wales/England thing... My father in law had the same issue - caught in Bristol returning from dropping us off at the airport, and got the letter when he returned home to Cumbria - he asked if he could take the course more local & they said no. No argument about the punishment, but to be expected to drive nearly 300 miles each way is ridiculous! He took the points. |
