I agree, common sense isn't very common but it's no more lacking than the brains behind the nanny state and it's over zealous experts.

another job that turned into a mega pain, was switching the LED flood lights in the back garden to halogen. 1st one been the most highest up, we swopped over, My dad wasn't keen on the project, and wanted me up the ladder, i am still not too keen on ladders, plus i am not that tall either. But we got there, The next one, which should have been a walk in the park, turned into a mega nightmare.
My dad wanted to put the replacement one, where he had one years ago. No bother, but we had to move the junction box, he had put up, and most of the sodding wires came out of the blocks, so we lost the full works. Today we started back at it, and my dad kept confusing him self with wiring. To the point we were going in circles, until i made him go right back to the beginning. Found what wires were what, and went from there. Again he added another harness which was different, that kept throwing him off. I found the same wire colours in a reel we had, So i replaced his loom with it, So All was the same. Duplicated everything and we were laughing until the rain came, and it got that heavy we were like right stop here. We were only 20 mins or so from finishing, but the rain got very heavy and thunderstorm kicked right off. Most people don't research things, and then wonder why things go west on them. My dad has a nasty habit of doing that. Jumping into things before research, and making notes.
