Puma Rad Arrangement
Morning All,

Sorry for yet another post but I am really confused - let me explain...

I have been looking at posts around how to remove the wings and in those posts I notice that the "support beams" (?) for the slam panel (where the bonnet latches into) are distinctly not present in these pics. I have had 3 grilles now and on all 3 (with the exception of the KBX) I had to snap off the central 2 tabs that are meant to slot up under the grille surround because they fouled on these support beams/poles - is this correct or has the front end of my defender likely been dismantled and put back together incorrectly?

This is a non-A/C model so it could be that the pictures I'd seen on the wing threads were A/C models, but I have to ask the question because the more time I spend with this car, the more i question whether stuff I experience is "normal"

Mine is (somewhat) like this one from google, but the slam panel supports stop the 2 central tabs from the grill locating in behind the surround

Cheers
K

The cross braces are sided, and I am suspecting that yours might have been fitted the wrong way around (left on right and vice versa). 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Thanks Dinnu!

Could they be upside down as well as the wrong way around too? I need to have a proper look tbh, but are there markings for L/R Top/Bottom so I can be sure?

I do not believe there is any marking unless they are new and could still have a label.

See items 5 and 6 for a clear understanding in the LRWorkshop link.

Thanks Dinnu, I'll have a look after work and see if they sit closer if i take them out and swap them around!

If that is the issue, that's a nice simple fix, then the next thing is working out why the headlight surrounds don't align on the 2 screws by the grille when they align with the indicators/sidelights (or vice versa)

Take a good picture of how the crossbars are fitted after removing the grille before further disassembly. IIRC, was a bit tricky to get it re aligned with the bonnet pin as the lock spring is quite strong. I do not remember if you can fit the lock spring afterwards or not. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
