Recently been having issues when starting my 110 TD5. Half the time it cranks longer than usual. Always starts eventually and drives flawlessly, but worried that it might be a sign of bigger issues to come.
I've attached YouTube videos of a normal start and the delayed start. I have a feeling it might be fuel related, so going to replace my FPR as it seems to be leaking anyway. But would be thankful for any other suggestions where to start , esp from people who have had a similar problem! Your fuel system might be ingesting some air over time and it takes time to get the system pressurized.

Changing the filter housing cured 95% of the same problem on mine. The final 5% of improvement was had when the injector seals were done. Changing the injector seals also had the effect of turning a noisy fuel pump (on initial turning of the key) into a positively quiet pump, just a nice hum rather than a veritable whine! Maybe coincidence but it was a bonus to the injector seal job, starts perfect now no matter how long it’s been stood.

I would make a gauge which can be done very cheaply now (especially if you’re going to have hoses off the replacement FPR) a gauge on eBay is about £15 and test instead of just guessing. There is plenty of threads already on here of the pressures to expect.
Hoses, regulator, pump, filter head, injectors, crap quality filters, Chinese pumps, washers, o-rings, cracked heads, cracked injector sockets, injector adjustment, fuel contamination, are just a few of the reasons. Buy a gauge for £30 don’t throw parts at it, I’ve worked on these since they came out and you can waste hundreds guessing. |

as Nick MC says, get a gauge to see what the story is.
Mine started having a little trouble, cutting out last year, and the EM light come on. It sort of fixed it self, but the later came back and bit me. Turned out it was the fuel pump failing. Some times you got to go back to the old school diagnostics, the computer stuff, in my experience never helped me with the peugeot 306 HDI fuel system nor did it with the TD5. But a proper gauge did, with the 306, which diagnosed a high lift pump in the engine bay. Problem all sorted! Turned out to be the worn/pitted solenoids (see attached pic) on the starter motor. I replaced these with a $20 eBay kit and she starts beautifully each and every time. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!
