Totally agree that the D250 is great, but there is more performance from the D300. The OP asked if people who've driven them both could explain the difference. I've driven them both back to back recently in virtually the same spec 110s and chose the D300 because it felt more responsive/powerful and that's what floats my boat. That's not a criticism of the D250 or that it's not up to the task of towing/overtaking. I'm also not trying to say people who've chosen one have made the wrong decision. 0-60/62 is not the best or only metric. But it is generally an easy one to find. And in this instance shows that there is a reasonable performance difference between the 2 models. So yes, I'd say in the context of comparing the performance of the D250 vs D300 it is highly relevant. This doesn't mean the D250 isn't good in its own right. But then so too was the D240 and I'd guess the D200 too. People buy vehicles for many different reasons, so I'd find it odd that you can't see why someone might want the faster D300? |

I drive my 110 with a petrol engine, because the available Diesels weren‘t powerful or fast enough for me. I guess everyone is different…

All I can say is when I got my Volvo D4 with 163hp it was not enough, so I had it Polestar "ed" to 215hp. The Volvo is somewhat lighter than the Defender
395hp in the BMW is nice. The new model has 483hp. Obviously BMW decided 395hp wasn't enough. |

My mother (77) sold her Tesla S dual motor because she kept getting speeding tickets and always seemed to be on 9 points. She moved from that to a Jag F-Type V8 which she loved, but was too noisy after the Tesla, to a Merc C 63 S, which she says is far more civilised

If I was to order again I would take a D250 over the D300 due to its ability to have 18” wheels
without any mods, more sidewall and tyre options for off road.. My P400 has the same brakes as the D300 and it cost a fortune to have the rear caliper conversion done.. ![]() MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

I think it really depends what you gonna do with the car. Coming from the TD4 Defender with 122HP I see the L663 as a 21st century version of the old. It’s superb off road, it can pull, it has a quite rugged interior. Still it’s very comfortable. If you drive with a roof rack you won’t go faster than 120km/h and still have fun. I decided for a D200 because at the time it was physically present at the dealership and had all options I needed. The 3.0l Diesel is even in the base version more than enough. I believe the Disco is a better car for having a lot of power. The only thing I could think about having 300HP is when you are regularly pulling more than 3 tons. 18 inch wheel option! Yes!

Rugged interior??
![]() You can't be serious. Compared to older Defenders (and most sub £40k regular cars on the road) it is a lap of luxury in the new one! Not saying the interior isn't nice, but no way is it rugged like the old one. It also a vastly different type of vehicle unless you can show me where the pick up version and chassis cab variants are sold these days. |

You think the old one is rugged with all the plastic parts coming off after a few weeks of gravel road? I abused the new one quite a bit and if you don’t get all the leather parts it still looks good and everything works solid. Driving the TD4 or older you always had to have a bottle of WD40 and a pack of plastic clips in your holster. In my experience that’s history. I drove a 2022 Silverado before and the interior felt more fragile than on the L663. Also feels better than my wife’s JL Wrangler.

The 34 year old interior in the Ninety seems pretty fine to me. Easy to clean, rugged in a sense it is practical and you can chuck large objects in the dash and easy to get mud off. door cards are a bit tatty, but a huge departure from the new model.
My 1977 Series III 88 interior I would also say is miles more rugged than the current model. Not dissing the new model. But it is just such a different vehicle to the old one that they are hardly comparable apart from being 4 wheeled transport. They share almost nothing in common. |

Let’s say rugged for civilian use. Why would anyone take a running chainsaw on the passenger seat and take it out for a ride. It’s a Station Wagon, not a truck. Personally I also wouldn’t invade Poland in a Defender. For hunting, throwing some wood in it, going on a longer offroad trip I think it’s rugged enough.
Maybe it’s different driving a D300 though with them big fancy brakes and all the luxury ![]() |

Agreed. I own both a 2014 90 Puma and a 2023 90 Defender, the Puma is basic and rugged, I can throw a stinking wet dog in the back and climb in in muddy, wet boots and wet clothes, and when I get home just brush or hose it out. The new defender is a very nice car indeed but it's far from rugged, although it does try to look so. As I've said in a previous post, the new Defender should have been the Discovery 6 (after the disaster 5) where it would have sat very nicely, and left space for a cheaper, basic, rugged vehicle.......similar to Grenadier but smaller and cheaper. Having said all that, I know some people offroad (some very extreme) the Defender which is a very capable vehicle but they are in the minority and in the most part have heavily modified it to make it rugged. |
