Recommendation for rust proofing in Witney / Oxford area..?
Have recently bought a lovely Def 90 CSW and am thinking about rust proofing. Its nearly 10 years old, but immaculate (from James French). I am in two minds about treating the underside. Having spotted a few local members on here I would be interested to hear of anyone in the area that provides this service, and can do the job properly (with masking-off etc). Any advice welcome. JF do not do it (and advised against it on account of the mess it makes).

Welcome steve Smile

I took some advice from here, set aside a bit of time, and did my DC myself. You're right, it's a messy job, but reassuring to know it's protected under there now.

I think pretty much everyone on here would agree it's a good thing to do/get done. I'm afraid I can't help with recommendations if you don't fancy it yourself.

I used a Dinitrol kit for mine, which included everything you need, even including overalls & shoe covers!

I'm sure someone'll be along in a minute with a rec of who to do it for you Smile Mark

Exactly, part of Defender ownership is actually satisfaction from doing stuff yourself Thumbs Up 2005 TD5 90 Hard Top

I won't be able to do anything for you until the 10th December which is a bit late in the year considering the weather as the cars have to have been clean and dry for 5 days prior to delivery. I don't have the facilities to clean and dry over a two day period and don't let anyone do it that cleans and treats in a day they will be just sealing water inside the chassis. Gigglepin near Sevenoaks sub the work out to someone and sound to do a proper job but it's roughly £800. A member recently on here had his done somewhere and they hand scraped the rust off and used Dinitrol it should come up if you do a search.

Lots of info on here also if you want to do it yourself - as yours is 10 years old and if it hasn't been treated before you will need plenty of acid rust converting treatments before you treat although some cavity treatments have this built in... Have a go yourself Thumbs Up

Many thanks for the replies. Looks like I will have to travel, or get my hands dirty. Either way, will probably leave this until the Spring.

Try MID Engineering or James French - whilst they probably dont carry this out themselves, being local to you, they'll be able to point in the right local direction. Their contact details will be in Dealer Recomendations on this site.

When I was stationed at Brize Norton I used these individuals on a regular basis. They Waxoyled my Discovery and did a damn fine job! Thumbs Up

Costs next to nothing to give them a call, they are only 15-20 minutes drive away in Faringdon. They were very reasonable too! Thumbs Up

Akroyd,

Have you tried frogsisland4x4 who are at Milton Park by Didcot?

I have nothing to do with the company but have had them cover a couple warrenty jobs on my 110 that I got from Nene and they seem to be a good bunch.

I queried rust protection for mine and they say they take it to a local place to have the underside steam cleaned, let it dry and then protect. I didn't ask for a price it's something I'll be doing on mine late next year.

Google them mate and give them a ring/email I would suggest.

Give Frogs Island a call and ask to speak to Chris. They have a flat rate of £400 all in and the process takes 3 days start to finish. They did my 110 and the finish is superb Thumbs Up
