We also had Fox shock/springs with heavier roll bars, remap, stainless exhaust and full noisekiller kit fitted, the 110 has now done a few miles and the suspension has settled nicely and levelled out, the exhaust sounds almost like a V8 but then walk round to the front and its a diesel again, all in all very happy.

Sounds great! What do you use your Defenders for? Are they put to work or just fun machines? Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

We have a plumbing company so it will lug stuff about along with the dog, but will also be a fun machine

Very Happy Brilliant, love the truck! I was thinking of doing something similar! Are the rear windows genuine LR? Who put them in for you?

Cheers

The front bumper looks a lot better in the flesh and also has 2 led spotlights in it which are are actually better than the main beam, we didn't want huge driving lamps on the front and these are very good.

Just wondering if you know what make these LED spotlights are? Would be interested in similar myself.

Thanks Rich

The bumper looks exactly like the FF tubular one I have for sale Whistle

Looks like they have removed the swivel recovery eyes and replaced them with the leds.

I am ready to be corrected but I always thought putting windows in the rear of a commercial vehicle which the USW is alters its tax classification. This would then effect the ability to reclaim VAT on the purchase, higher RFL and would change the tax allowance.

There again I might be wrong! Am not trying to rain on anyone's pride and joy

I'm thinking about going the other way with my 110 CSW as I've taken the seats out the back and just use it as a load space anyway. Doh!

Good choice going for one if the last 2.4's too Thumbs Up

We were lucky enough to be in a position to have the 110 as a company vehicle so maximise tax and VAT went for the USW and retro fitted the rear windows.

Moggy

Be extremely careful. I suggest you have a very careful conversation with your company accountant.

I am not an accountant/VAT inspector/HMRC or whatever but you have just stated that a commercial vehicle owned by a company to maximise tax and VAT.

Have a read of this

Quote:

Commercial vehicles
VAT-registered businesses can generally reclaim the VAT when they buy a commercial vehicle. Any vehicle is a commercial vehicle if it has a payload of one tonne or more, or an unladen weight of three tonnes. In addition, it's normally easy to tell the difference between a car and a commercial vehicle like a van, lorry or tractor. But there are some vehicles where it's harder to be sure whether they're a car or a commercial vehicle. These vehicles are car-derived vans and vans with rear seats - combination vans, or combi vans.
Car-derived vans
Car derived vans are based on cars and look similar to cars on the outside. But either the manufacturer or a vehicle converter has altered the inside of the vehicle so that it's sold as a commercial vehicle. For example the rear seats and seat belts will have been taken out and a new floor panel will have been fitted in the back to make a load area. The rear side windows will have been replaced by opaque panels.

OK I am not an expert but surely taking out opaque panels and fitting windows is the reverse of making a car derived van into a commercial. i.e. a commercial van is now a car?

I would strongly suggest you take professional taxation advice

Brendan

PS edited to add as I thought you can not normally claim VAT back on a car

Quote:

3.1 When can I recover the VAT charged on buying, importing or acquiring a car?
As a general rule, you cannot recover the VAT on the purchase.

We were concerned about this also so took advice and as the windows are heavily tinted and no seating has been added so as to retain the load space it is ok. It was bought as a USW and will be used as such with in essence just a cosmetic change to the exterior.

I hope your advisors are correct, but you will have to forgive me if I have my doubts. Opaque panels v tinted windows???

One of the advantages of forums is the dissemination of information to a much wider audience then those who just post on any particular thread.

Anyway good luck and enjoy your new vehicle.

Any questions that havnt been answered are due to the fact that I don't know because I wanted certain things done to the 110 and Nene came up with a package to suit, but I'm sure they can fill in the details if contacted.
